In Digital Photography in weeks 3 and 4 we covered the importance of focal length, depth of field and composition.
Week 3
In week 3 we examined focal length that is determined by the lens that is used with the camera. We also looked at focus modes and perspective. Finally, we re-entered the world of aperture and how it controls the depth of field.
During week 3 I focussed on completing the first assignment. We were required to complete a series of tasks that revolved around the technical use of the camera in controlling the shutter speed, aperture and ISO.

Week 4
In week 4 we shifted from the technical to the wonderful world of composition. In my class Introduction to Digital Imaging, composition was a driving force and something that I grew to love. There are many ways that composition can effect on the impact of the photograph and the relationship to the viewer.
This is a refresher to some of the most critical.
- Rule of Thirds
- The Golden Rectangle
- The Golden Spiral
- Golden Triangles
- Rule of Odds
- Balance
- Colour
- Line
- Pattern
- Texture
- Framing
- Symmetry
Week 4 Task
For the task in week 4 we were required to take a number of photographs and consider composition for each. I was particularly drawn to the pattern and texture of the natural world around me.
