This is an on going post for Digital Design, week 8. I will post my progress throughout the week with the required activities.
Tasks
- Formalising Splash Screen concepts
- Developing original source imagery
- Uploading work in progress
- Providing feedback to peers
- Photoshop tutorials (ongoing)
- Continued work on Project 1
Project 2: Splash Screen 1
Last week I developed a number of ideas and created a design proposal centred around my theme and sub themes. I will begin by working on the first splash screen which has the theme Miniature and the sub theme, Identity.
Miniature: Identity
The sub theme Miniature: Identity draws on the exploration of personal identity and ego, through the manipulation of multiple images into a combined design. We see the representation of a person trapped inside several glass jars that each display a different level of personality. Anger, acceptance and defiance. The jars are worn around the neck of a subject that is wearing the same clothes of the subjects inside the jars, thus sharing the parallel of identity across all of the design.

Original Photographs
Photographs required
- Large Person (chin, neck and body)
- Miniature person 1 (angry)
- Miniature person 2 (accepted)
- Miniature person 3 (defiant)
- Bottle 1 (short wide)
- Bottle 2 (long thing)
- Bottle 3 (short wider)
- Necklace (or included in large person)
- Background
Considerations
- Clarity of photograph (can the object be seen correctly, is the angle of the photograph relevant and clear)
- Lighting (is the lighting appropriate, is there a consistent lighting across all imagery. Although photographs can be edited within Photoshop, having good lighting in the photographs is a very helpful asset.)
- Quality (shooting with my DSLR I aim to set at the highest quality. A DSLR will produce a much better result in terms of scaling the work in Photoshop, compared to a phone camera).
- Subject (making sure that the photographs of each subject correctly adhere to their chosen objective within the theme. For example, using the person, there body language in the first jar should be angry and aggitated, while in bottle two they are accepted, down or depressed. There is no language or verbal insight, so the subjects much be able to clearly ‘speak’.)

Test Print
I created a number of test prints, where I would make corrections to the designs as needed. In the earlier versions, I could see where I had made mistakes with the misalignment of certain elements.

A3 Sheet
Modifications
When viewing the design in the completed A3 sheet I noticed a few problems that will need to be resolved.
- I had accidentally added a border around 1 page.
- There is an incorrect join in the design front page, that runs along the centre. This is most likely a clipping mask that is not running in a complete line or may have an additional anchor point that is causing it to bow slightly.
- The colours of the A3 sheet are just not working and need some modification to represent the character of the plane.
