Week 2 of Design Studio: Concepts and Narratives is complete. In week 2 we focussed on tracing and rendering.
The activities for this week were very interesting and we learned of the importance of being able to trace and render effectively. As a professional designer, you need to be able to replicate imagery correctly as well as to have a full understanding of the form and structure of the image you are copying. Before this week, I had not attempted to trace and render, and each work that we had to complete was very detailed and took between 3 – 5 hours. We also created a light box, which gives you a very clear light to capture all the details as correctly as possible.
The process was also something that took some adaption as well. With tracing I had a tendency to want to do complete outlines, where a space should be left to avoid blotting. With rendering, I found that many times my pressure holding the marker would increase the bleed.
Here are some examples of my tracing and rendering.
We also had an optional exercise to create a collage and to also trace and render it. I found that this was a great way to continue to practice.
