Week 1 of Design Studio: Concepts and Narratives is complete.
In week one we focussed on sketching and trying to capture the form and scale of artworks and objects. We looked at different mediums (pencil, fineliner, charcoal, pen, ink, watercolour, etc) and the drawing techniques that can be used when sketching (scribbling, hatching, crosshatching, smudging, blending, negative, contour, continuous line, etc). We experimented with different mediums and techniques to create a range of different sketches. The main purpose was not to replicate the artworks or objects in exact detail, but to quickly (in 5 to 10 minutes) be able to capture the primary features.
This was a bit of a challenge for me and I had many moments where I did lose confidence in my ability, because I felt like many of my sketches didn’t accurately capture the artworks and objects like I had hoped. I just had to remind myself that this is a process, and it takes time. I am only able to try my best and keep practicing so I can improve.
Below are a few examples of sketches that I have done. They are not my final submissions for week 1.
Looking forward to stepping into rendering and tracing, next week. ? ?
