Ring Obsession

8 years

I have a slight obsession with rings. Especially silver rings that are either in unique shapes or look like animals…

I recently went on a little bender with jewellery and purchased a number of items from Equip and eBay. Most of these items are rings, but I had to include a few necklaces and earrings to make it interesting. πŸ˜› Prices ranged from $1 to $6 (AUD) after scouring the sale bin on Equip and finding bargains on eBay.

Let the ring magic begin (very image heavy).

Questions:
1. Where do you like to buy jewellery from?
2. Do you prefer to have a lot of cheaper items or a few expensive jewellery items?
3. What is the max you would pay for one jewellery item?

  1. LOLOLOL Kya~!! Oh my god. Your ring obsession is worse than mine. I go back and forth, though – I just bought a new pearl ring. Even though I should really be discouraging you from buying more rings, I fully and completely understand the obsession. I have been trying to buy less jewellery lately, though, because we only have ten fingers right? XD

After buying a lot of stuff from Equip and Lovisa (BTW, send me an email if you want me to get you anything from Lovisa – they have sooooo many sales here in the city and I know they don’t sell online anymore, which is unlucky for you because of your location. I know you would love some of the stuff they have on sale), I decided to stop buying from them for a while. Their stuff is cheap and lasts an alright amount of time, but I prefer to buy more expensive pieces that are better quality now.

Every now and then I do give into the more costume-jewellery style, though. More expensive precious metal stuff tends to be pretty simplistic and sometimes we want to be more glam or whatever. πŸ™‚

The max I would pay for a piece of jewellery honestly depends on the piece, but I would not be willing to pay more than $15 for a cheaper item from Equip or other similar stores. The reason for this is because I have noticed even big jewellers like Bevilles, Prouds and Goldmark have real silver pieces for as little as $10 (for small earrings) and $25-$40 for a nice bracelet or necklace. For precious metal items, I would be willing to pay up to $70. The same goes for custom items. But if I feel the item is very valuable and costs more than $100, I will certainly have a good think about it before purchasing.

I like to buy my jewellery from ThePeachBox.com these days πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ As you know, I subscribe to that Helene Jewelry bracelet box too.

I recently bought a few things from MyJewelleryStory.com.au – they are very affordable and though the pieces are more β€œclassic”, they are all good quality rhodium plated and use Swarovski crystals, if you are into the classy fancy pieces. You can get some rings for well under $25, that is where I bought the pearl ring I was talking about earlier in this comment.

Anyway, let me know if you want me to shop around for something for you and I’d be glad to send it your way <3

    1. It did make me think of you and your jewellery hoarding (xD). That is such a sweet offer to do that for me. I should try and be good. It’s probably a blessing that they are not online…. eeek.

  2. Nice ring stash, Kya! I love rings, personally, but I don’t buy them online because I don’t know my ring size XD;;; I need to go get it measured one of these days, but I haven’t had the chance to. I like rings, but I discovered I can’t do cheap rings. Metal just do not agree with me unless they are stainless steel, sterling silver, and golds. If I could tolerate them, I’d definitely buy a lot of the cheaper ones.

    1. That can be a problem with ring sizes and some only list them as small, medium and large. My fingers are not that small, so I usually go for a larger (or largest size) and don’t have many issues. If one is too small than I use it as a necklace instead. πŸ˜€

  3. OMG SO MANY RINGS!!!! SO MANY CUTE RINGS!!! As I browse down, i was like.. hmm this is cute… and this is cute.. super cute and even more cuter as i scroll your page! alskjhdhfkl

I am not a fan of jewelry, but I love looking at them when I go shopping. I only wore a bracelet (taken from my mom because she insists that girls should wear jewelry, and i thought her bracelet looks cool. it was a wedding anniversary gift from my dad but she never gets to wear it. she gave up and let me wear it as long as she sees her daughter looking like a girl lol. and it is now become my lucky charm) and a necklace which has been passed down from my great grandma. But i do buy cute rings and put it as the charm on my necklace kekekke~

    but to answer your question:
    1. Where do you like to buy jewellery from?
A shop called Chameleon. I often get mine there, or Lovisa. I don’t know other stores tho lol

    2. Do you prefer to have a lot of cheaper items or a few expensive jewellery items?
I prefer a lot than limited.. if you know how to match it with your outfit, the $1 stuff can look expensive too XD

    3. What is the max you would pay for one jewellery item?
not too much tho hahaha… i love bargain buys so I wont spend so much on jewelries~

  4. I would love to wear rings, sadly though anything custom jewelry gives me a rash (eczema to be exact), it doesn’t matter what it is made out of. On the plus side that means I can only buy expensive things. I have an obsession with my goal necklaces and big earrings. Your stash it really nice, I wish I could wear the owl one, it is too adorable!

    1. Aww, that is a shame that the cheaper items don’t agree with your skin. But you’re right in that what you have is good quality and would last a lot longer. πŸ™‚

  5. Wow, you got so many pretty rings! I really love those stack ones, and the silver moon one. I like the idea of the crown ones too. The carousel necklace is super cute!

I didn’t wear rings for a long time because it always felt weird having something on my fingers. Now it feels weird when there isn’t something there, since I’ve gotten used to wearing my engagement and wedding ring. I prefer to have a few expensive items because my grandfather was a jeweler, so I have several items from him πŸ™‚

  6. Wow, that’s a lot of jewelry. Do you wear it all?
I don’t wear any at all anymore, a necklace and a ring at times maybe, some earrings sometimes too but that’s it. I prefer expensive items (like from Tiffany) but only a few. I’ll wear that on special occasions or when I’m in the mood πŸ™‚

  7. oh they are nice.
I used to get a lot of my rings from silverspeck.com they have had some awesome pieces, and there was a site called hollywoodstyle.com.au i think…… dont know if its still around. I have big fingers so its hard to find decent rings that fit. All that being said i only wear one ring at a time. I used to wear them on as many fingers as possible, but I kept losing them all.

    1. Thanks for sharing the links I will have to have a look. I feel you on having bigger fingers, it can be hard to find ones that fit. πŸ™

  8. I am so jealous right now! I have stupid stubby fingers and it’s pretty hard to find a ring that fits! I found one once, bought it. Proceeded to lose it a few weeks later.

I’m in love with that owl ring! It’s adorable!!!!

    1. Where do you like to buy jewellery from? I tend to be given most of mine. In fact I lovely a lovely wooden box that was made for me that houses a lot of jewlary (necklaces and earings, mostly). I got the majority of them through gifts!
    2. Do you prefer to have a lot of cheaper items or a few expensive jewellery items? Because I don’t wear jewlary much, aside from my Greentone and my watch (both gifted), I can’t really say I could tell you! If something looks nice, I’m not fussed if it’s cheap or not. Although… Being a student I’m kind of broke haha so if I do shop it’s usually for cheap things
    3. What is the max you would pay for one jewellery item? Eek. I don’t know! I mean, I’d love to have a really nice engagement / wedding set if I ever got married. I recall one of my old bosses wives had a ring that was worth about $20k! Depending where you buy, that’s a deposit on a house! It’s crazy! So maybe something like $5000 max? I don’t know! I have no idea about jewellery haha.

  9. I love the rings you got (and ringwish!). I am especially fond of crocheted animal rings! I have a hedgehog one and love it to bits.

I keep my accessories in clear daiso boxes with compartments and boxes.

    1. Where do you like to buy jewellery from?
I like to go to local stores and fleamarkets.

    2. Do you prefer to have a lot of cheaper items or a few expensive jewellery items?
The latter because it is more unique!

    3. What is the max you would pay for one jewellery item?
I guess diamonds is a thing… XD It depends on the materials and how much I love it and what I can afford.

  10. I WISH I was obsessed enough to actually make purchases like that. Then, at least, I would have them when I want to wear them. I guess I do have an obsession, though.. it’s nice to have a gem miner for a husband. I never liked jewelry much before but since he gives me gemstones I’m starting to love their mysticism. If I had the money id buy as many valuable pieces as possible because they’re a worthwhile investment that only increase in value. Not a bad idea, there. Do you dabble in jewelry crafting? Like wore wrapping, etc? I can send you a couple crystals since you’re generously hosting me ^~^

    1. That would be so awesome to have someone that mined gems, you would be able to have so many wonderful items made. πŸ˜€ It is such a lovely thought to want to send me some crystals, but you don’t have to do that at all. Thank you. <3

  11. It’s awesome that you got a bunch of rings out of a good deal!! I love all of the rings you got! There are some nice variety from stackables to your favorite, owls ;).

These days, I suppose I get my jewelry from Pandora. I rather have a few expensive jewelry items, mostly because I think it’ll last longer and doesn’t get tarnished as fast. So far, I paid $300+ for my watch. Though it’s the max I would pay for once in a while.

  12. Those are beautiful rings! I don’t blame you for being obsessed with them, lol! I would buy all of them in a heartbeat too, especially when they come at a great price such as the ones you found!

  13. All your rings are so cute!! I usually only wear my wedding band and engagement ring, but you’ve inspired me to try other things. XD

  14. OH MY GOODNESS those rings are gorgeous!!!!! I love the owl ring, crown ring, and the moon ring. I love rings tons as well, but the thing is I wear the same ones at all times. I bought them specifically to wear without ever changing them. I have tan lines on both my middle fingers and thumbs now! XD and the best thing is they are all Harry Potter-related. I have a metal ring with the Gryffindor crest and ‘Gryffindor’ inscribed on the band, a black-and-silver ring with dragons on band and ‘Until the very end.’ inscribed on the inner band, a metal ring with the Deathly Hallows symbol, and a simple silver band with ‘always’ in the Harry Potter font inscribed on the band.

I got all my rings off three different sellers on Etsy (both metal ones were made by the same seller, who is such a sweetheart). I’m thinking about going on the hunt for a new one to replace the ‘always’ one, since I bought it before Snape’s problematic existence became a big point of contention for me. I kind of want one related to Pacific Rim or Game of Thrones, but there’s very little jewelry for the former and I feel like I can’t wear anything GoT-related since I’ve only watched the series.

I don’t know if I like expensive jewelry, but my pieces all cost at least $25 because they’re made of metal. I just want good quality pieces, but because I heavily prefer metal pieces (adjustable rings don’t do it for me anymore) it’s really hard for me to find an affordable piece with what I want.

I think the most I’d pay right now is $40.

  15. I wish I had some place to buy jewelry from but I don’t. I’m not a big fan of any type of jewelry. Though rings are very nice though! I can say that at least. The only pieces I wear constantly are my wedding and engagement rings. Still, cute rings! ^^ I’m obsessed with other things.

  16. Gosh those rings are so pretty! Nope…. not tempted! Not at all! πŸ˜›

I try not to have too much jewellery. Often I buy something just because it looks pretty, but end up never wearing it. Also I get gifted it a lot, especially when my mum or sister go travelling. I try not to be concerned about price, and choose whatever suits the outfit I need.

Also I would like to point out that your text appears a bit glitchy. See this screenshot.

  17. Wowww… So many pretty rings! πŸ™‚ I especially like the starfish ones.

I love rings too but I’m nowhere as obsessed as you are!

    1. Where do you like to buy jewellery from?
I usually get them as gifts!

    2. Do you prefer to have a lot of cheaper items or a few expensive jewellery items?
I’m not too particular; I just like unique-looking pieces. Usually rocker-chic. So I guess you can say I’m on the cheaper side.

    3. What is the max you would pay for one jewellery item?
It depends on the style, the material, and the amount of cash I’ve got.

  18. *swoon* rings are my FAV bit of jewellery, closely followed by necklaces. You’ve got an awesome selection here.

I probably spend between Β£15-Β£30 on rings. I need them to be at least sterling silver as I keep them on all day – even when I wash my hands. Anything more than that feels a bit extravagant considering my salary. If I earned more I would splurge. Most people give me necklaces (like the TARDIS one I’m wearing now) so I’m lucky there I don’t need to think about budget.

  19. Those are some lovely pieces. The Silver crown ring is likely my favorite!

    1. I like finding items at yard sales or estate sales best. You can find really unique items that way!
    2. My box has items that are expensive and cheap. I have to be careful though, I’m allregic to everything! πŸ˜›
    3. The most I have spent was 1k. I think that’s my cap.

    1. Items at yard sales can be such great finds. It would be hard being allergic to a lot of things, but in the end you would know you have good quality items. πŸ™‚

  20. Oh my, that was some rings! Some very beautiful rings – especially the butterfly! I usually buy my jewelry from different places like “Glitter” here in Sweden. They have both cheap and expensive things, but I need to be sure that there is no material that I am allergic to, mostly nickel. The most I have spent is on my wedding ring, in pure gold….

    1. If you are allergic, it would be difficult finding items that were high quality, well in stores that did sell cheaper items. I guess it’s a matter of getting to know some stores and finding those quality pieces. πŸ™‚

  21. Oh I see why you’re really into those rings. You’ve got really good taste when it comes to picking between the designs and the color compliments. Since I am not really into the quality, I’d always prefer the cheaper and many of them πŸ™‚

  22. Oh my gosh there are so many!! And these are so unbelievably cute. You have great taste ^_^ I’ve never really gotten into the whole jewelry/accessories thing. I don’t think I can be trusted with tiny things that I might lose. I pretty much lost all the ones I’ve ever gotten as gifts x_x I think Etsy style/hobby pricing is best for jewelry. You get such unique items that no one is likely to have! Whereas if you went to Forever21 and bought one, very high chance the next person you cross paths with will also have it, haha.

    1. That can be the hard part with some jewellery, it can be easy to loose. That is one of the reasons why the cheaper items can be good. They are pretty and there is not really a large amount of sentimental value invested, so if you loose them it’s not a big deal. However, with expensive rings I have gotten as gifts, I get scared to wear them in case I loose them. >.<
