The Month That Was: January 2016

7 years

In January 2016, I stopped hosting, stopped drinking soda and dealt with my iMac crash. 😧

This month wasn’t as exciting as previous months, with most of my time focussed on Uni and completing assessments. I did make the healthy decision to stop drinking Soda and largely reduce my sugar intake and I have already been loosing weight.  I also decided to focus on saving money and downgraded my hosting to a VPS, instead of a dedicated server. It meant that I had to ask many people to leave and that was not easy. I am hoping that everyone I was hosting could find another online home.  🤗

Next month I would like to make sure that I keep up with creative projects. It was a bit hard this month with my iMac crash and not trusting my old laptop to handle Illustrator, so hopefully February I can make all the things.  😋 I also need to catch up to so many blogs and apologise for not visiting and commenting!  😶

  1. Congrats on the weight loss and the high distinction at uni! I’m glad it’s going so well for you since resuming. Fingers crossed for the essay 🙂

I was able to lose 2.5kg this month which is awesome given I wasn’t the best with my sugar intake. I’m planning on starting some light body strength exercises for February and seeing how that goes.

I think my highlight for January was winning a permanent role at work and finally getting to sign the letter of offer! I’m not much of a risk taker where job security is concerned so it’s good to be off a contract and back into permanent work.

  2. I’m glad to hear you got your iMac fixed. Congratulations on your weight lost of 4 kg, and your High Distinctions on your first two assessments. I feel the same way when I have to turn in an essay. I’m sure you did good and will get a good grade on it.

    1. How has your start to 2016 been? So far, it’s been good.
    2. What was the highlight on the month? Posting my fan fiction for people to read. I was kind of iffy. I don’t know if people will like or not.

  3. You started 2016 being on a roll: iMac fixed, weight loss, good Uni grades; best wishes all year goes on like that. owo

My 2016 started well, but I had no real highlights; the closest thing could be that I almost have enough money to buy the external hdd I’ve been wanting along with the NTFS software for Mac.

  4. That’s great that stopping your soda intake is helping you lose weight. Losing 4kg is not bad in a month! ^^

And boo for your iMac crashing, but yay for it working again. Computer problems are so annoying!

I hope you’ll have a good February! Keep it up with your studies 🙂

  5. The fact that you have lost weight is a massive achievement, Kya! Congratulations! *huge hug*

I’m sure you did amazingly in the essay you recently submitted, given you have done so well in the others. This totally isn’t cheating, but if you ever want someone to proofread, I’d be happy to 🙂 🙂 🙂

  6. Hi Kya! I am happy to know you lost weight, but I cant really see myself stop drinking soda ._. This january I graduated at college and I was happy because of it, for like a second or two, until I realized it meant I was a fully-grown adult and needed to get a job. A real job. And it still scares me a lot, but you know how life is, we need to keep going right? n’D Oh, and I was wondering if you still wanted to be affies

  7. You might like drinking Kombucha. You probably already know about it, but in case you don’t: It’s naturally fizzy because it’s fermented tea, and it has a bunch of probiotics! The ones with chia seeds have A LOAD of omega-3’s. They sell them at health food stores and even at Safeway, so maybe other places started stocking them as well.

Also, in reply to your email… that is SO COOL that we have the same name. Yours is spelled in such an exotic way. I love it. Name sistahhhs~

  8. Congrats on your uni standings, as well as losing some weight and finally cutting down on soda. I’ve given up soda several years ago (diabetes issues), which also includes those diet/zero cal sodas too. I also gave up on juice and smoothies as well, so I drink mostly water, tea (milk tea included, which I also make myself), and coffee. Oh, and about your essay, it’s better you write it from your own mind and your own words rather than “buying” one completed essay and copy it/turn it in… hmm.

January 2016 has been a “just okay” month for me. Not so much work at my workplace anymore, but I still have a job regardless. I plan on trying to get a second job but I rather have that second job be something practical, like web development or something in that similar field. And also, I’m having a bit of financial issues again so I have to cancel some of my subscriptions as much as I can, which also includes… my Adobe CC subscription… T_T (good thing they’re giving me 60 days free, then maybe by then I can have my financial issues fixed and go back to the subscription again).

Highlight of the month is… well, I finally got some potential clients, but I gotta finish other projects first, which also includes my portfolio. 😡

And welcome back, Kya, seeing your Mac is back on working condition again. ^_^

  9. I wouldn’t say that this month wasn’t exciting for you because I think you reached some major goals. Studying and cutting out sugar takes a lot of effort and discipline and I think that’s awesome. Loads of people struggle with task all the time!

I’m sorry that you had so much trouble with your iMac. I know from experience that Apple electronics can cost an arm and a leg to fix D: I’m glad it’s working again though!

  10. ? I’m so happy you were able to fix your laptop! It’s so frustrating when that kind of equipment is not working. >~<

I should probably give up soda, too. And since you've said you're already seeing positive results, I will just have to do it as soon as our supply is out. Don't want it to go to waste afterall…

I'm also happy you're saving so much money now! ? it's all good 🙂

January was a bit stressful on my end, but it was filled with daily happy realizations; I love my kids! Truly blessed here. I also decided to start a conpany, so I'm excited to see where that takes me.

    Stay cool ^~^ ?

  11. Congratulations on the weight loss and the assessment results – those are both incredible starts to the year! 🙂 And really, taking the time to focus on your studies is never a bad thing… seems to be paying off.

My 2016 has so far been not a whole lot different to 2015. That’s not exactly bad, I’m content and plodding along nicely. The highlight of January was… um.. either getting my domain sorted, a really good first date or buying a shedload of gig tickets! 😀

  12. That’s great that cutting soda and reducing your sugar intake is paying off already! That’s also good t hear that your iMac is back and working 🙂 It’s tough to be without your normal computer. I would feel so unproductive without mine, haha. And congrats on the High Distinctions!

My 2016 has been pretty interesting so far. I’ve already been to two nerdy conventions and traveled for work!

  13. Congratulations on losing weight and on your high distinctions! I’m sure the other essay will be just as fabulous, wahey. I’ve never really drunk soda, but it must be hard to cut out – though the results speak for themselves. 🙂

I’ve spent most of my 2016 so far Netflixing. I guess that’s the highlight of my month, haha. I always feel like January is a bit of a ‘trial month’ – getting back into the swing of things after Christmas.

  14. That is like my worst fear, is to have my main computer crash. It’s been acting up lately so I need to do some maintenance on it – maybe even open it up and make sure there isn’t too much dust inside. I have a smaller hosting server too, just a simple reseller. For a while I was on a huge server with unlimited stuff but I got tired of dealing with it so I can understand your change. Good luck to another month. 🙂

  15. I’m so proud of everything you’ve achieved so far Kya! Well done! <3 Even little things like halting drinking of soda really helps! Big congrats on your grades!

  16. Yey for the distinctions! It’s always nice when your hard work pays off 🙂 Sorry to hear about your Mac, I’ve had PCs crash before and it is never a fun experience.

My January wasn’t that exciting. I’m still fighting off a horrible glandular fever (aka Mono)-like-but-not-glandular-fever viral illness. I had to miss my exams in January because I was too ill to even contemplate studying. But I’m getting there slowly, managed 1 day last week back at uni and 2 days this week. So progress 🙂

  17. It sounds like January was a busy month for you! Hopefully things will be better this month around :). Good job on stopping the soda-intake! Your health will thank you in the future ;). And another good job on your performance at school so far. Keep up the hard work!

2016 has been pretty busy for me, though nothing special have happened XD

  18. I have tried so hard to cut down on soda but it’s so hard. I think that’s all I need to lose my weight as well. If you feel that you need a soda, what is the easiest way to fight your cravings? I’ve never been able to win. Lol.

I’m so happy that you got your iMac back. I only have the MacBook Air but it’s my precious. I don’t know what I’d do without it. I assume you have AppleCare+ and let me tell you, it’s gotten me out of so much trouble. When I had my MacBook Pro, 2-3 months after I got it, the motherboard fried and they replaced it for nothing – just went to the back and grabbed me another one for no cost and transferred all my data. Sure, I didn’t have my Mac for a night but it was so worth it!

  19. I gave up caffeine for baby but it has been extremely hard!! So glad you saved your mac!!!! My imac is about 4 and I had to reload the OS in September but it has been running well ever since. I totally know that panic feeling over tech ;o;!!

  20. Seems like you had a fairly good start to the new year, even if you did have to tighten up a bit.

I’m fairly on point with my goals, so I’m happy. Art therapy has really been the highlight of my new year! 😀
