Searching For A New Host

Searching for a new host

6 years

I need a new website host. I was quite happy with my old provider (WiredTree), however I was recently notified that they have been acquired by another company (Liquidweb). I have read many mixed reviews about Liquidweb and it makes me a bit nervous and would rather look at other options. Let the searching for a new host begin.  😅

Edit: I have found a new VPS host and moved to KnownHost. So far so good.  🦉

My current VPS (Virtual Private Server) was starting to run a little slow, and I was actually in the process of working out an upgrade to my current server (it’s actually crazy-good timing really). I received the email about the change and it prompted me to begin the new host hunt.

Searching for a new host can often be a drama. Making sure it has the right resources, optimal uptime and you have support staff you can trust….

If you have any recommendations for VPS or Dedicated servers I would love to know about it. I have been reading reviews, looking on Web Hosting Talk and various other places on the internet. It’s always good to have the opinion of fellow bloggers.  🤗

  1. Unfortunately I don’t think I can be much help. We currently use aws but I believe you have to install and manage everything yourself so it depends on whether you want to go that route or not.

We’ve been using it for around 2 years now without issue though.

Hope you find somewhere you like 🙂

    1. Thank you! I don’t feel confident enough at the moment to manage a server myself, so I usually look for a managed option (even if it is more expensive). Maybe one day I will. 😀

It’s great that you have been with your host for two years without issue. When you can find a host you trust and has a good server, it’s brilliant. 😀

  2. Good luck with the search. For VPS, I’ve heard decent things about Cloudways. I know DigitalOcean’s involved somehow, and they, too, are good from what I’ve heard 🙂 Otherwise, I don’t really know much else about VPS.

I’m with DreamHost (since 2001!), and I’ve been thinking about upgrading to their VPS, but I think the shared hosting is good enough for me!

    1. Thanks so much for the suggestions! I have heard about DreamHost for a long time. I have just become so used to having cPanel on my accounts I haven’t been brave enough to make the transition to another system. >p<

  3. Hope you’ll find that perfect VPS soon! Finding a new host can be stressful- especially when you have to find the right packages with the right price point. We’re currently on Hostwinds as an experiment. Support can be a bit of a pain sometimes but as long as you know what you’re doing, there’s no need to interact with support. I haven’t had downtime or any other problems so far after setting the server up. Feel free to reach out if you want more details :).

    1. Thanks for letting me know. I hope that it works out with them! It can take a lot of time looking at hosts, but you don’t often know until you try them. I was able to find a new VPS host and hopefully, it goes well. 😀

  4. I use Dreamhost – they have a VPS service too that’s supposed to be decent. I’ve been on Dreamhost for awhile now, and I like it and haven’t had any problems. I recommend them!

  5. Oh nooo, I hope you find a good host soon! I wish you the best of luck in finding a new host 😀

My host is a Philippine-based company, I’ve been with them for 3 years and so far so good 😀

  6. Well, I used Namecheap to host my both of my web sites for years, which is a great host and they don’t charge much for hosting, either. Depending on what you’re looking to work with. My friend Angelica is now hosting me, and she uses https://asmallorange.com, which she’s highly recommended to me, if I ever wanted to buy hosting for myself.

    1. Thank you for the suggestions. I have tried both Namecheap and A Small Orange and found that the servers didn’t quite work for me. I am glad that you haven’t had any trouble. :3

  7. Hello,

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering why you wouldn’t stay with Liquid Web to try them before to decide to find, and move to, another host? I’m asking because I also have/had a server at WiredTree and I’m still debating what should I do.

    Thank you!

    1. I had read a number of mixed reviews about Liquid Web and didn’t like the idea or not having any choice any the provider I was moving too. So I wanted to look around and find someone that would suit my needs and I had more trust in.

Because I needed to have upgrades on my server, I did not want to spend extra money on upgrades with a host I wasn’t sure about. I am rather happy at the moment.

  8. I have a power account at Surpass Hosting. I’ve had huge databased sites hosted on there, news sites with heavy traffic and my simple little blog on there! Used them for over 10 years, my favorite thing about them is that when any issues happen, they are on 24hr chat!

I see you have already found a host – awesome!!!

  9. I’m glad you found a host already! I remember Georgie mentioning changing servers, but always forgot to ask her for details. 😳

I’m also planning to switch hosts, but ah, I mine is sort of for personal reasons similar to yours. But I mostly want to be taken care of; I currently resolve my own issues since, well…😒
