Room Renovation: Phase Two

8 years

Phase two of my bedroom renovation is to stain the floorboards and lacquer them.

So far I have given the floorboards two coats of stain. I am very happy with the rich colour that it has given the boards and I think it will fit in well with the whole design.

The floorboards have been stained, still a bit of dust on the walls...

The only one problem I have had, is the time it is taking for the stain to dry. I know that this is due to the colder weather we have been having. Hopefully in the next few days we will get some warmer days and I can begin the lacquering.

Phase one was very difficult. All the sanding and scraping gave me a lot of hand cramps, but it was well worth it. I am looking forward to being able to finish phase two, and moving on to phase three; painting the walls. πŸ˜€

Questions
1. What colour floor boards do you like? (darker or lighter)
2. In the area I have for my study, I am considering some wallpaper, which do you like best: One, Two, Three or Four?

  1. It’s looking good! I can’t say whether I like light or dark floor boards better, I think it depends on what you do with the room as to when they look best.

As for the wallpaper definitely #4! I’ve considered something similar for a wall in my bedroom but darker: This.
I also like these two: One and Two but they might be a bit darker than what you’re after.

  2. Hurray for phase 2! I like the new color of the floor! It does look rich indeed. I like darker toned wood floors until it gets scratched XD. My floors at home are medium toned wood. I see #4 as the best fitting one :).

  3. I also agree that darker floorboards look nice! Light floorboards are great too but dark floorboards has that ~sophisticated feel, haha. I also couldn’t choose between any of the wallpapers. I’m so indecisive >< I'm sure whatever you end up choosing will look pretty.

  4. You really are into this and I’m glad. By the time you finish, the room will be looking awesome. Keep going at your own pace, and you can do it! ^^

  5. Looks like a rich colour indeed! I think I would prefer something lighter, personally. But well done to getting to this stage! Also, it’s 24ΒΊ in Sydney today so hopefully you get some of that coming your way. πŸ™‚

I think I like the second wallpaper, the brown brick? It looks a bit β€˜rough’ but I prefer it to the white one.

    1. Thanks for your opinion on the wallpaper!

I do like the look of lighter boards, but because of the painted white floor previously, I was scared of having anything too light. xD

  6. I definitely love the darker tone better! haha I suggest you choose a plain type wallpaper to compliment you flooring. Out of the four, I choose the white-brick one. It adds an industrial design feel to it πŸ™‚

  7. It’s looking great so far! I really like the color you have now, and I’ve always liked darker floor boards over lighter ones. As for the wallpaper, I’m a big fan of damask patterns. They’re both interesting and elegant looking πŸ™‚

  8. It’s so hard to choose between dark and light. I like the airy-ness of white, but it scratches and gets dirty easily. Dark is nice, it feels warmer and it doesn’t look grimy.

I don’t think any of the wallpapers are what I would personally choose, but if I were to choose one of them it would be four – I like the pattern.
