Room Renovation: Phase Three

8 years

Phase Three of my bedroom makeover is to paint the walls, skirting and cornices.

Painting the bedroom walls was relatively easy (compared to the other tasks) and I was able to get everything painted in one day (with help from my mum). Thanks to the heat we have been getting, it should be dry in a day.

Before beginning the painting today, I spent some time the previous day vacuuming the walls and wiping them over with a damp cloth, to make sure all the dust was removed from the sanding.

Today I started by stirring the paint. I stirred it for about an hour to make sure it was mixed well.

Paint stirred!

Next I covered the floor in old sheets and material. It doesn’t look that attractive, but I am glad that I covered it, because there was drips!

Patchwork of sheets, to protect the floor from drips. ?

After a few hours of painting, it was finally finished! The colour that I have painted is called Vivid White. It’s not a huge difference compared to the previous white, but it does give everything a fresh new feel.

Hello freshly painted white walls! πŸ˜€

However….. There might have been a slight spillage around the walls….. ?

….. Oops. ?

I am hoping it’s not going to be a major task to get that excess paint off. Ideally I should have done it while it was still wet… Heh.

Up next is phase four, the final step. Decorating! I still have to buy a new bed, mattress, side table lamps, mirror and a few other finishing touches. It’s going to be a lot of fun. ?

Questions:

  1. What colour walls do you have in your bedroom?
  2. What colour walls would you love to have (if you can’t change the colour)?
  3. Do you like all walls the same colour, or a feature wall that is another colour?

  1. We live in a rented house, so we can’t decorate. If I could it would all be white, maybe a feature wall if I could make a firm decision.

    1. It can be so hard to decide on those things. If you have a space where you can change the design, you could alter the feature wall, just have to be prepared to have all the furniture out of the paint zone. xD

  2. Congratulations on finishing phase one and two! It’s good to hear that you’re having a lot of progress over your room renovation. Same color or not, new paint always give you that feel of refreshness. Look like phase 4 is coming up next!

My bedroom walls at home are light light light blue. I would love to have a neon blue room, but that’s just me with my obsession over neon blue XD. Part of me likes the traditional one-tone but the other part of me wants to be artistic and have different shades on each wall; but that’ll be complicated to execute…. Mostly because it’s easier for me to regret the multi-toned colored room XD.

    1. Thank you. πŸ˜€

Having every wall a different colour would be a really interesting look. If you had a steady hand on the edges it would be so great.

I brought a bright blue once to paint my walls, but it turned out to be pastel. I don’t think they mixed the paint right at the store. But it was still nice and had it for a few years.

  3. The walls of my room are blue while the rest of the house is white HAHA. I wish I had painted them pink but I moved in back when I was a child and didn’t like pink. πŸ™ Sometimes I feel wallpaper might make a room cosy but what if I get tired of it? Maybe white walls are for the best! πŸ™‚

    1. I don’t have a lot of experience with wallpaper and know that there is some fiddling with preparation and glue. However, it can look so nice. πŸ˜€

  4. I love seeing renos! Everything looks so clean and fresh! Have fun picking out your furniture and decorations!

Our bedroom walls are a blueish gray right now. We live in an apartment so we can’t paint the walls, but I don’t mind it too much. I wish it was a little bit brighter because I think it makes the rooms feel so dark and small.

Feature walls are fun! But I don’t know that I’m bold enough to put one in my own room. Haha

    1. Thank you. πŸ˜€

That would be annoying not being able to paint the walls, or alter them, especially when the colour is a bit darker.

  5. Well done on completing the next step! Looks like you did it super neatly, looks amazing. Oops about the paint you spilled. Maybe you can really lightly sand it off? I hope it’s not too difficult even though it’s dry. πŸ™‚

What colour walls do you have in your bedroom?
Mine are a gross off-white sort of colour. I don’t like it. The paint is chipping because the house is older than me and my parents aren’t keen on repainting anything. It would take far too long for me to convince them to get my room painted. By then, I might have moved out. LOL.

What colour walls would you love to have (if you can’t change the colour)?
I am not sure but a really pale blue would be super nice, or just a really fresh clean white rather than an off-white.

Do you like all walls the same colour, or a feature wall that is another colour?
I think I would like to have a feature wall in another colour. I wouldn’t mind having a cute pattern or design on one of my walls. I previously wanted one black wall to get creative with, but yeah. Probably not gonna happen in my parents’ house. xD

    1. Thank you. πŸ˜€ Thankfully the paint on the edges just wiped off easily. I was so glad because it could have been an issue. πŸ˜›

It might take even longer to convince them of a black wall. Imagine if you did a black wall in chalk paint, so you could draw whatever on it? :O

  6. That’s great that you were able to finish in one day! Your paint job looks very nice and even πŸ™‚ Hopefully it won’t be hard to get off the excess paint, but it doesn’t seem very noticeable at least! The decorating part sounds like the most fun. I’m really looking forward to how your room will look at the end!

The walls in our house are boring, haha. We just have white walls everywhere. If I were to paint them, I’d probably choose a very light, neutral color.

  7. So fresh! The floor looks great, I love the contrast between it and the walls πŸ™‚ they’re a lovely canvas for some tapestries, plants, and pictures.

All of our walls are white right now, but I’d like to change that sometime πŸ˜‰

Feature walls can be really cool, maybe even with a few different colors on it. I think a wall painted like a color palette like from colourlovers.com would be interesting..

    1. Thank you. πŸ˜€

It would be a lot of fun to mix it up with a colour palette. Alternatively you could also create an artwork from those as well. πŸ˜€

  8. Looks like that was hard work. I’ve never actually painted a room before, how difficult is it? I’d probably spill paint everywhere, or paint it unevenly. Glad to see it’s going well.

What colour walls do you have in your bedroom?
I used to have some really cool purple and lime green wallpaper at my parent’s house, but now I live in a rented flat so it’s just cream.

What colour walls would you love to have (if you can’t change the colour)?
Dark red. My mum was always dead set against dark wall colours (because it makes rooms look smaller), but I’ve always seen that colour used on home makeover shows and think it looks great.

Do you like all walls the same colour, or a feature wall that is another colour?
Feature walls. Especially if they’re papered with a cool pattern.

    1. It can be a bit difficult to do, because you have to make sure you have enough paint on the brush or roller and that it is being applied evenly. Leaving marks behind and drips can happen so easily. It’s also best to make sure you paint when you have really good lighting.

  9. I absolutely love white walls. My husband and I are in the process of building a house. Our wall color is going to be a somewhat grey shade. I wish it could have been a stark white, but our builder didn’t offer that option.

  10. The white walls looks great! Can’t wait to see your decorations. <3

We live in an apartment, so we can't renovate but I'm happy with out white walls. This is a very old building (over a hundred years old!), so it looked quite rustic before I brought in our modern furniture. Nearly all of our furniture is white. I like an austere approach to interior decorating.

    1. Thank you. πŸ˜€ I love white furniture so much. You can style it however you want with accessories and it’s easy to do. πŸ˜€

  11. Looking good, Kya! I can’t wait to see how you’ll do the decorating part! πŸ˜€

My walls are this ivory-coloured textured wallpaper. We live in a rented flat, so we can’t go around and re-decorate, but if I could, I’d have white walls, too! White goes with everything, and it makes the room look bigger!

  12. Ah! I’ve been keeping up with your room revamp through instagram! I’m totally jealous, you’ve inspired me to re do my room but I can’t do much seeing as I share a room so πŸ˜› I can’t wait to see the finished outcome. Good luck Kya!

  13. Your bedroom revamp looks awesome. πŸ˜€

What colour walls do you have in your bedroom?
    They’re white. Totally white.
<strongWhat colour walls would you love to have (if you can’t change the colour)?
I can’t paint these, at least I wouldn’t ask to, because it’s my grandmother’s house. She’s painted it before—yellow—but the color I’d like is an edgy one. I’ve always wanted a room where one wall was black, or two walls were black…like a domino effect or something. I had a turquoise wall in high school at my dad’s house, and it was a great backdrop for photos.
Do you like all walls the same colour, or a feature wall that is another colour?
I like featuring 1-2 walls (if two, then walls that are across from one another) that are a different color. It adds variety and looks nice, I think.

  14. OMG! Your room is looking so awesome! Congratulations on finishing Phases One to Three. ? My walls are currently an off-white shade, which I abhor…because hate isn’t a strong enough word to describe my feelings towards the color. Sadly, I can’t get rid of it – I live in Public Housing, and they don’t allow it. ? My dream bedroom color would be Glidden’s Dolphin Grey – it’s so pretty. It’s a grey – obviously, but has just a hint of purple in it. Then for an accent wall, I’d do a striped wall with the Dolphin Grey and a shade lighter/darker – I’m not sure yet. Pair this with wood floors stained Cherry…and I’m happy. ? I cannot wait to see your finished bedroom renovation.

  15. I have white walls. I like white walls. It’s fresh and makes things look bigger. If I could have any color though, it might be light blue or brown. Beach colors!
