Room Renovation: Complete

8 years

I am so pleased that my room renovation is finally complete. The final step was decorating and I had a lot of fun doing this.

There is still a few items that I want to add to, such as the owl lamps I like, storage boxes for the top of my wardrobe and cloud shelves. But these are only minor elements. I am really happy with how my room turned out. It is a very relaxing and calm space. I also finished it before Uni starts in November!

Goal complete. ?

The cord that is hanging down doesn’t look that attractive, it is wifi modem connection to the roof mounted antenna. I will find some way to have it discreetly displayed… You may also noticed in previous posts I talked about wanting to wallpaper the area where the ‘study’ is. I still plan to do that at some point, but it’s not a high priority. I have to get the socket and switch removed before I could do that and have it patched and sealed. The previous owners had installed a flood light that was so bulky and the light extremely bright. I am glad it was removed.

There you have it, my room complete!

So, how much did it cost me on the renovation? If I was good, I would have kept proper records so documenting it here would be easy. Nope. So, I have a rough estimate of how much it did cost in total. The price may be slightly higher or lower.

Floor & walls (including sander, sanding paper, stain, gloss and paint): $600 AUD
Furniture: $2188 AUD

  • Pixel Rug: $159
  • Wardrobe: $299
  • Lamp Tables: $45 x 2
  • Bed: $289
  • Mattress: $380
  • Bookcase: $159
  • Jewellery Storage Mirror: $169
  • Painting: $159
  • Draws: $215
  • Desk: $99
  • Floating Shelves: $40 x 2
  • Quilt Cover: $60
  • Cloud Clock: $10
  • Cloud Cushions: $10 x 2

I already owned the curtains and all other accessories that can be seen in the pictures.

So the total cost was around $2800 AUD. It may seem like a large amount, but I am happy with it because I have my room like I wanted. It could have cost a lot more if I had not sanded the floor myself. In the end, I am very content with the final result.

  1. HOMG, KYA! Your room looks amazing! You did a fantastic job renovating it. I love the whiteness, which makes everything look so clean and spacious! The shelving unit all look great. I love how your work space is tucked away into that little spot. Your jewellery storage thing made me go WHOAH. Your bed looks so cute and comfy. Just asjfjlslkadfkjfa! I love it! I’d totally hire you as my interior decorator if I need someone XD

I have my own bedroom, but my desktop PC is not in my room. It’s in a separate room because back in high school, my dad and I shared the PC, so we had to put in a room that’s not our bedroom. I happen to spend a lot of my time there. I do love my room, though, because aside from not having the PC, I have everything else in there like my TV, PlayStation, books, et cetera.

Good job, again, Kya! You’ve worked hard on it, and the end results is a great showcase of your hard work!

  2. I really like the bookcase. The whole room looks very comfy, good job!
That mirror is quite practical as well, never saw something like that. I just bought a bright yellow carpet floor for our bedroom, it looks nice and friendly now.

    1. I had seen the same kind of mirror in some online stores and I was really interested in it, but I couldn’t see it before buying it so I was a bit unsure. Then one of my local stores got some and I was able to see it before getting it so I was sure it was what I wanted. πŸ˜€

  3. Wow – it looks amazing! I love your jewellery/make-up storage – it looks so cool.

I share a bedroom with my boyfriend now and it’s a rented flat so my walls are just cream. Our bedding’s pretty colourful though. And no room for a seperate study space in our flat – just a case of sitting on the sofa doing work!

Hope you enjoy your new room!

  4. It’s so cute! I love your desk and bookcase! I’m thinking of redecorating my flat a bit, if I do I’ll post some photos. πŸ™‚ (I live by myself currently, well, most days anyway…)

  5. I love love love the result of your room renovation! I like how simple and clean it looks. It’s pretty creative how your mirror is a 2-in-1 cabinet as well. You have a lot of cute things too! LooOooooove your stuffed animals ;)… And everything else! For $2800, this is a good outcome!

My bedroom at school looks stuffed but loaded with nice things. I have a study place at home, except I like to get distracted a lot @___@.

  6. YAY it looks great! I really love your little cloud pillows and the shelf looks awesome. You have so many Penguin Classics! And I also spy Harry Potter πŸ˜€

    1. Aha! πŸ˜€ I still have a number of books I love that I must have accidentally put in the ‘to-go pile’ so I will have to go through the 10+ boxes and find them. >.<

  7. Oh my God! Your room looks so nice, grat job! /o It makes me wish I had my own bedroom :’) The mirror with the jewellry/nail polish storage is my favorite object in your room, it’s so convenient!

I’ve been sharing my room with my younger sister since forever. I used to have a desk but my dad kinda moved it out when I was abroad so I only have a small table now and it’s not enough space for me. Since I’m quite messy, there are always a ton of things on it and since I’m lazy to clean, I spend most of my time in the living room when I need to work. Hopefully I should have a new desk in a month or so! Our bedroom isn’t anything out of the ordinary to be honest, but the things that makes it “stand out” are our bunk beds and our 3 book shelves πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you! πŸ˜€

That would be difficult when you are sharing a room with your sister, and space would certainly be limited. Bunk beds and book shelves are pretty awesome. πŸ˜€

  8. Your room is so beautiful! <3 I've never been good at interior decorating, so this is very inspiring.

I share my room with my husband. Sometimes I wish I had my own room again. πŸ˜›

  9. This has given me both room goals and serious envy. This is the sort of room you see in cool magazines or when you want to get ideas on ‘how you too can be super cool’.

You’ve done an amazing job! Who cares about the cost, you spend most of your time there it needs to feel comforting.

  10. Your room looks super ADORABLE! Well done πŸ˜€ I love all the little details you’ve put in such as the big painting, the pillows, and the patterns everywhere.

I also spot the watercolor print I made. Eeep! XD It’s an honor my art got to be part of your setup.

  11. Wow, I really, really love how your room turned out! The dark floor looks great with the white furniture, and I like all the bits of color you added. I also really like your bookshelf and jewelry storage. It all looks amazing!

My bedroom is very plain because I just sleep in there, haha. I spend all of my time in our game room since it’s where my computer is. I share my bedroom with my husband!

  12. Wow Kya, it looks amazing! I know the floor was a lot of hard work, but from your pictures it looks like it was totally worth it, it’s gorgeous!
I love all the cute and colourful stuff you have, I spot a lot of adorable owls in there πŸ˜‰

I share a bedroom (and all other rooms) with my boyfriend. It’s quite small so it’s just our bed and two bedside tables in there, but on the other hand it has a small walk-in closet! I love it and claimed it for my own as soon as we moved in, haha

  13. THE PLUSHIES. I feel like I should get you more for Christmas because you may never, ever, ever, ever have enough. HEHEHE.

Also, I have a little brown own like that little brown owl that you also have a white one of!

I want to lie on your bed it looks so nice and cosy. The print is really awesome. I also really like your use of white. <3 Dying over that jewellery cabinet right now! I’m cleaning my current collection.

    I would show you photos of my room but half of it is a mess of stuff that belongs to my parents ;_;

  14. Wow this room is GORGEOUS! I love the bedsheets and the stuffed animals are just adorable! I have a room like this at home and it’s full of matching furniture and bedsheets, and lots of stuffed animals as well. But currently I live in the city with a roommate and only have necessities, so I think of it more of a place to crash rather than my room. Maybe one day in the future if I settle somewhere permanently I’ll have a beautiful room like this again, but for now I can always go to the room at my parents’ house!
