In case you didn’t know, this year has seen an exciting event take place in the online world. Many new domain extensions TLDs (top level domains) are becoming available for registration. Some of the already available for registration include; .gallery, .email, .photos, .directory, .photography and .graphics (with many many more).
We should all be rather familiar with .com, .net and .org but soon we might all be using .blog for our sites too. I think this is really exciting because with many more different types of TLDs being out there, it means that we can have greater sites build to specific interests. For instance, if you’re a photographer you might use a .photography, .photos or .gallery.
Even though there are many serious or ‘target specific’ TLDs (think .tattoo, .management) there are also many that you can have fun with and be creative with too (like .today, .voyage).
Maybe it’s just for the fact that I do have a domain problem and like looking at them…. >.<
So, what are my favorites so far, and what am I looking forward to most? This could change over time, but right now:
So far I like: .gallery the most
Looking forward to: .blog, .cloud, .dot (xD), .free, .host, .love, .mail (I like this better then .email) and .web
What about you? Are you into domains or considering any of the new ones? π
I have also been updating my domain inspiration list with new ideas when I think of them.
* The featured image is a stock image that I purchased some time ago. It was hard trying to find a photo of my own, that was somehow relevant or looked okay. xD

Yaaay domains!
*dance*
I have been thinking about .photography… and .diamonds seemed nice but I could not think of a good name to team it with. Same goes for .gallery! I love the extensions but until I think of something super awesome, I think I will sit on my hands.
I also like .mail more than .email. And .blog will be a nice one too. I wish I could think of something smart or use domain hacks … but I donβt think the new TLDs are as flexible. xD I am still in love with .nus.
.nu is very pretty. π I guess it takes some time to get used to things as well. Some people might like them or not, it’s just hard to work it out in the early stages. xD
I like how you love domains Kya because that same feeling you have with them, I have it with buying too much yarn! π
I like the new TLDs but I haven’t seen any I would really like to buy for myself; I think it’s still because I love the normal .com/net etc domains.
I saw that they may have one in .london (maybe soon?), which I would buy if I am tempted enough!
…and I also really like the .nu domains when they were in fashion. Those were amazing. I would love to get one again.
I am pretty sure there will be a .london which will be awesome. π Hopefully it won’t be restricted though, sometimes they do that. Time will tell! π
I think I am too traditional and/or OCD (probably moreso OCD) to be exicted about these new domains.. The .blog one is probably my favorite of the ones you mentioned, though. However, I do not think I would ever get one.
And yes, you are a domain whore!!!
Did somevone say whore?! :O π
But, what about micole.blog? π It would be so perfect. *sniff*
If I even consider getting a new one I know I’ll go crazy and buy loads (although a .books if there is one would be cool).
There will be .book π
I still really want a .nu, but the .web, .love and .mail TLDs are nice!
…I really don’t need anymore new ones, though. π‘
π Maybe. Or maybe you doooooo.
I love the idea of some of the new TLD’s. But I have no idea what I’d use any of them for!
π I am sure you would find some things. π
I love the idea of TLDs. So many possibilities. I am tickled by ahoy.nu. π .blog is probably the most relevant to my needs. We’re so used to .org/.net/.com and personally i love .org. TLDs are pretty specific… which is good and bad. It appeals to my (OCD to some) need to pack things neatly but stifling i own one domain only and want to expand my site.
I can’t wait for .blog it will be interesting. Having one domain would be good in many ways too, make things easier. π
I love .cloud! That one has a lot of potential for cuteness. I wanted a .nu domain for a while but the only one I really liked was taken. I was thinking of getting one of my tumblr but I don’t wanna own too many I think!
I think .cloud could really have many wonderful options. π
That is a good idea to get one for your Tumblr. At least it gives a purpose for it right away. π
I used to have a serious domain problem, too! Ever since 2002! But now I have a serious money problem (ahem… Millions of kids!), so I can’t go domain crazy like I used to. Boooo!
But I do favor the fact that these new extensions ultimately make the URL shorter in some ways. Like… Instead of blahblahphotography.com it’s just blahblah.photography! π
We have to try and stop at some point and kids are more important than domains. xD So you have to use the money in the right way.
I think it’s cool how it will work. Some things it will and others maybe not. π
I’m thinking about getting my own domain and so awesome to hear about these new TLDs! .dot made me giggle! Hahaha. Thanks for sharing! Hopefully .blog comes around soon π
That would be really cool if you could. π I hope that .blog comes out soon too! π
Aaaaaand now I have like 37 new domain names I want. Great. π
I love the new TLDs, especially .blog, .gallery and .dot. Found .zombie to be pretty cool too. The possibilities are endless, I am definitely tempted to get some new domains! *bites nails*
Bwahahahaha.
I wish that .zombie was real. I know that namecheap was running a prank for april fools. They also had .selfie which would actually make sense. xD Too bad Instagram didn’t try and do it. :B
I think that sounds great! It should mean it will be easier to find a domain name that suits you since all of them won’t be occupied.. I would love something with .photos.
There is certainly more choice. π I guess it gives people more options too. If you’re someone like me who also likes to have sites for different purposes it works well. π
I’m loving all these new domain extensions. My favourite one I’ve seen is .pizza. Haha just kidding. Sounds cool but I won’t personally go for that one unless I started a take-away or something.
I have a .info domain, simply because it was on offer when I purchased it.
It’s great when they do have special offers on the domains. i can remember when .info had a special price for a long time, then it increased. π
This is certainly neat & quite exciting. However, I don’t have a domain problem & I don’t really need any more domains except for this new one for a project I’m doing. I think a lot of hosts will have to transition into hosting these domains though because some of them will only register .com, .net, .org, or whatever for you & not the other “exotic” kinds. Love the .gallery one though. Separating my gallery from my website right now would be sooooooo painful in terms of tedious unnecessary work. Sigh. Nice gallery you’ve got though, Kya!
That is probably a good thing that you don’t have a domain problem. For those of us that do, it’s a dangerous time. xD
I haven’t had any problem with my server on the new TLDs, I guess maybe they have had options open for it with different types already out there, I am not really 100% sure.
Wow, I had new idea there were more TLDs being created! I really like the .blog idea. Another idea might be .portfolio since so many people have online portfolios. This could seriously make URLs a lot easier to find (or maybe not since it does leave room for a lot of creativity).
Glad you mentioned this though! Maybe when I renew my domain next year, I’ll change it to something more unique!
π Glad I could let you know about it. I guess you can always register one and decide if you want to use it later. It can be annoying when you are not sure if you want one or not, and then later you do and someone takes it. :((((
It must be weird to seeing all those new domain tlds. Although I don’t think much people want those big tlds, because the url gets really long. (or if you use it smart, it shortens your url haha)
Some people will like them and some people won’t. I think it’s good to have more options though. π
This is so interesting. I think I love .gallery as well. It just sounds so cool If I were to choose one though, I would go with .blog. Thanks for the heads-up, hun π
π Hopefully you can get one if you decide too. π
I do believe that the new domain extensions are pretty cool! However, I’m still partially fond of .net or .org. I decided to give a .com a try out. But like Alice, if they had a .books, I may give that one a try.
I’m a domain lover as well. I think you may have Georgie, to thank for that one. Though, myself included. If I were going to blog about my personal life when my life starts getting interesting again – I may end up going with a .blog extension just to see how it goes. But, I doubt it.
I’ll be emailing you shortly with my new domain and what not.
There will be .book π
Oooooh, how exciting! Might look into this when I have to renew next year. Love .blog idea.
π Woo!
So THAT explains your portfolio URL! That really confused me in the beginning. I’m still not 100% convinced of this idea, though, it feels so foreign to have a URL with a noun as the TLD, somehow it makes more sense to be to have something more systematic. So I guess that would make .web my favourite, but maybe this will pick up and be more common place.
I guess that is why having the choice is a good thing. Some people will like them and some won’t. It will be interesting to see how in the next few years (or ten years) how much they will become the ‘norm’ or what will happen.
Ooohh, that’s really exciting! I love the new ones already, they all sound pretty good π
π Maybe you need one for something. Bwahaha.
I do love domains, but I’m trying my hardest to stay away from buying more since I just got down to two domains this year. I have been considering buying a .gallery so I can just have one place for my gallery & one for my photoblog. Maybe that’s what I’ll buy myself for Christmas. haha.
Though I never do plan on moving my blog to another tld. I’m going to stick with .net – but with that said I have thought about changing the url…but I just can’t at this point it’s been years and the domain as just stuck to me for some reason.
It would be good in many ways to have things simple with a small number of domains. I get carried away though. π‘
I think it is wonderful that you have had the url for your blog for so long. π I mean, you can always get other addresses that redirect to it. π‘
This is very exciting!!! I would like a .blog or a .portfolio if that ever comes out XDD
π Hopefully soon!!
So many new TLDs, so many possibilities! So exciting! I’m most excited for .blog, .host, .mail and .gallery so far, but I really need to come up with some (hopefully) clever domains to make use of them. I thought I was starting to get over my domain addiction too, I’d got myself down to a mere 12. I can’t see this new influx of domains helping my cause any. *gulp*
When you have a domain addiction it is pretty hard, and when changes like this happen and so many new domains popping up, it IS even worse. xD
Hopefully you can maybe just get a few that you like. xD
Wow, this is crazy news – I hadn’t heard about it until now! It’s honestly really revolutionary, and I’m looking forward to the cute name combinations that are going to crop up. People have done some creative things in the past (e.g. delicio.us) but this opens up the doors to all sorts of awesome things.
I wonder how long it will take for these new TLDs to become “accepted” and “commonplace”. There’s definitely still a stigma amongst domains that aren’t .com/net/org. For example, one girl was told by an interview that she should change her portfolio site from FIRSTLASTNAME.me to FIRSTLASTNAME.com to make it seem more professional. It’s understandable, but with the limitations of buying .com/net/org sites, I hope that more of these non-standard TLDs get the respect they deserve.
It will probably take years before we see what happens. I can assume that if there is some type of really popular website that pops up on one of these new TLDs it will probably make them more popular too. It will just take some time to see.
That is an interesting point you mentioned about the portfolio url and what is seen as professional or not. I guess depending on the type of industry you would have to take that into account as well.
OHMYGOSH! I am seriously so excited for .blog the most! I am so gonna think of awesome domain names! Thanks for the update on the new TLDs! WHEEEEEEE!
No problem. π I can’t wait for .blog either! Hopefully it will be out some time soon! π
I don’t think I could ever give up for a .blog, even if it was erin.blog…maybe I’ll use that for Tumblr? Lol But as for my main blog, I couldn’t give up the .nu I have. In fact, I just renewed it for another 2 years. I can’t believe my domain is almost 2 years old. X.X
If there is really going to be a .dot then I am definitely registering SOMETHING with that. That is too hilarious. maybe dot.dot LOL or dots.dot or dotsdotsdots.dot XD I could go on forever.
I had no idea you had a domain inspiration list…Aren’t you afraid of people registering those domains before you can? I’m probably going to use IBE as a domain collective soon, I miss using Domainish. Lol
Those are a lot of domains, holy crap. How long have you had this list?
OH! I can’t wait for .host to come out. I’d use it for my hosting company. π southhost.net right now but after south.host PERFECT. π Though it will take people a while to get used to those new TLDs but I’d just use the .net to forward to the .host π
I’m just not sure if these new TLDs are as professional looking as the old one’s are. Like we’ve always seen as .com for the most professional businesses and same with (to a lower standard) .org & .net and then .info was less professional and so on and so forth.
So, you need any help with blog matter? I have free time on my hands and would love to help you out with it. I don’t want it to go extinct!
I’m not afraid that people will register the domains, that is the idea. To try and provide a list that might help anyone that is having trouble with deciding on a name. π
Wow, that’s interesting – hadn’t heard about that! I have a very boring .net address, but am wary about changing it because of all the links that would be broken. Still, maybe I’ll take the plunge and get more creative!
Having a .net is still a great thing, nor boring at all! π
I guess it just depends on what you like and are comfortable with. You can always have a domain redirect to a new site too. π
This is super exciting, I can’t wait to see some of the creative domains people come up with, especially with ones like .land. .blog is a great TLD, and I think the different extensions will be wonderful for people who have their own network of domains. I wonder how many may be restricted to location or profession or other factors though? I was absolutely gutted when I couldn’t find a loophole that allowed me to get a .ca domain (boo, for being British) because I really wanted to register rebec.ca (although I believe that has since been claimed, sigh)
Personally I don’t think I’ll be buying any more domains, I’m terrible enough at keeping up with the one I have, and I spent far too long eyeing up a .nu to switch to a new extension now I have it!
Although I did just spy down the list on namecheap and I really hope somebody somewhere does something adorable with .boo!
That is one bad side, the more domains you have the more websites you set yourself up to make haha. xD
That is a shame that you couldn’t get a .ca π
I totally didn’t know about the new domain extensions until I read your post. I am totally not used to seeing them yet, but it’ll be super interesting to see more and more people using them. I like the .blog extension a lot!
Also, I wanted to wish you a happy belated birthday!!! <3
It will be interesting to see people using them. π
Thank you! :’)
Ohh!! That’s so cool, thanks for telling us about this! π Woop!! Domains!!
No problem! π
