My October was a productive one. I finished my class on typography, wrote a book (more details soon), practiced with watercolour pencils and began renovations on my mums office. 😇
I really enjoyed my class on Typography. My final grade was 80 (which is thankfully still a HD by my Uni’s marking system, phew). I had hoped I would get something a bit higher, because I had been working very hard. Once I have the result for my last assessment I am going to contact my teacher and see where I could have improved, to make sure that I haven’t missed the obvious. :turtle: I only had good comments in the discussion boards and was constantly working to improve what I was creating, as well as reading extra books and material about Typography. I guess sometimes, you either get stuck in a certain thought bubble or… have a teacher that is really particular with their marking… Either way, it’s a motivator to do better in my next class. 😉
I have written and illustrated another children’s book. I have not yet realised it online, but I am hoping that I might be able to have everything ready to share in a week or two. I want to get the print version right before sharing and I am also waiting on the registration of the ISBNs. I ordered one copy, but realised I needed to make some changes, so I am waiting for that to arrive so I can review it and see what I will do next. I contacted a number of local printers, and it was cheaper to use Blurb (especially when they have a discount running). I had thought about doing a post on how I create a book, but didn’t think I was really qualified to do it… I guess it might still be interesting to view my current process and compare it later? 🙃
I have also practiced with watercolour pencils and been renovating my mum’s office. We finally have some warmer days for painting, but ran out of paint. I thought that 6 litres would be enough, but didn’t realise that the paint would be so thick. Always get more than you need (I think I told myself this before) haha. I have also been watching Westworld and The Walking Dead S7 (omg, all the feels). 🤢
As November ticks over, it also means the start of another NaNoWriMo. I am going to have another try this year, not sure how I will go. You can add me if you are also taking part. Good luck to anyone that is doing it. 💖
Happy Halloween! 🦇🦉
Hope you have a great November! 🍩
Good luck with NaNoWriMo, Kya! 🙂 It’s something I have never taken part in, I did think of participating in it a while ago though. I don’t really like writing novels anymore but I still enjoy blogging. ? I could do a blogging challenge, haha.
It’s good that 80 is still a HD for you – for me it was 85! And it was difficult to get. But it’s good that you are being challenged to do even better. 🙂
I would love to read your process on how you publish a book. I have no idea how to go about it myself and I would love to publish one with my own poetry. I know you are no expert but I think people love to read about how ‘regular’ people do something that might be considered difficult or challenging unless you are ‘famous’, if you know what I mean.
Thank you!
congrats on getting a high score in typography 😀
does 80/100 in your uni equals to A? if that is so then you’re lucky! my uni only gives an A when it’s 90 and above. 80 would be a B or B+ …
i’ve always wanted to participate in nanowrimo but never gotten around to actually doing it. i think it’s because despite people saying i can write, i don’t feel confident and think my writing sucks 😛
good luck on nanowrimo though, kya! 😀
I think it would be an A, because it gives me the highest GPA. I am pretty lucky with that, as I don’t think a lot of Uni’s would follow that style. Unless it is something unique to design courses.. haha.
NaNoWriMo can be a challenge. I don’t expect that I will get the 50k words, and there is a good chance I will never share the writing I have done. It is a great motivator to just write though. Something I haven’t done for a long time.
Congratulations on your final grade. I’m getting more into typography now. It’s so cool. I wish I had a typography class at my university. I wouldn’t mind taking it. Once I complete all of my requirements, then I can take random classes. The typography class would have been one of them. I want to learn how to use typography and create stuff using typography.
I can’t wait to see your new children’s book.
Good luck with learning typography. 😀 I am sure you will be able to create some great designs!
Best of luck with NaNoWriMo! I always mean to participate, but November always ends up being my busiest month. This year doesn’t seem to be the exception to the rule…as I might be moving more than just blog location.
Congratulations on the awesome grade in your typography class – but what is an HD? An 80 where I live would be either a B-, I believe…because everything in the 70s is a C and 69 below is a D. Haha, of course I may be completely off as I’ve been out of school for at least 5 years. *screams in horror*
I’m in the process of watching TWD as well – I’m only on Season 4 so trying to avoid major spoilers is my main focus right now. I’m also debating watching either Gilmore Girls – before the whole special on Netflix or finish Friends.
Have you posted any pictures of the kitchen renovation? I’d love to see them, and I cannot wait to see your finished reno of your Mom’s office. My interior design urge is growing a bit – due to the possible move.
I think my uni has a weird grading system and I got lucky, in that anything over 80 is a high score haha.
It can be hard to avoid spoilers sometimes.
I haven’t posted any pictures of the kitchen, but I might some time. I plan to change a few other things in it, so it looks a bit better. ;D
Good luck with Nanowrimo 🙂 I’ve never done it myself, but I know a lot of people who have. I hope to do it one year, but the desire to do so hasn’t hit me yet. It’s certainly a challenge to write 50k in one month, though!
I’m glad you learned a lot in your typography class. It’s a good idea to get feedback from your professor 🙂 It helps to get constructive feedback. Sometimes the feedback may “hurt”, but it will help you in the long run! It’s good you received an 80 and it’s considered HD.
Congratulations on your new book! 😀 It’s amazing you completed another one despite doing your studies and other projects! Your dedication is fantastic!
Thank you so much!
Glad to hear that you had a productive October! Congratulations on the 80 in your Typography class! It’s good to learn and improve yourself as you go along :).
Congrats on finishing another children’s book. I’m looking forward to seeing the final product! Good luck with NaNoWriMo!
Thank you. :*3
You WROTE A BOOK? That is SO AWESOME! Looking forward to hearing more about it!
What a busy month for you! Lots of good things it seems! Also good luck with Nanowrimo – I did it for 7 years straight back in the day, but haven’t done it for a few years. In my adult life I’ve seemed to be much more inconsistently busy – either I have evenings totally free, or else my entire day is just filled with one thing after another. It makes it really hard to commit to doing something every day. But I hope you do well! Report in with your progress, I’d love to hear about it!
Thank you! 😀
It can be a challenge to try and write so much, especially if you are busy. Because I have uni starting tomorrow, I probably won’t be able to commit as much as I have in the first week, but I hope to keep trying. 😀
That’s nice that you’ve had a productive month! I’m glad you enjoyed your Typography class, and I hope your teacher will give more info on your final grade. That’s good that 80 is still a HD though!
That’s exciting about your next book! I can’t wait to see it 😀 I loved your first one!
I’ve been busy with sewing, but now that I have more time, I want to get back into watercolor pencils. I was playing with them in August, and I liked the control I had, but I missed the flow of paints. I bought some watercolor paints to see how I can use both paint and pencil together.
The pumpkins illustration is so cute! Good luck with NaNoWriMo!
Thank you! I hope you find the time to use the watercolour pencils, I am sure your work would be awesome. 😀
That’s awesome. I hope I have a good Christmas and a better New Years eventually. I hope so.
That sounds like a very good month all around – congrats on the good grade and such a positive outlook on continuous improvement. You’ve written and illustrated a childrens book? How exciting! 🙂
Thank you! 😀 It’s a really rewarding task to start with an idea and turn it into a book.
How’s NaNoWriMo going?
80 is an amazing score, did you manage to find out what stopped you doing even better? Sometimes I think slightly lower grades are for the best, as they push you even harder, otherwise I get complacent (not that I think you are getting complacent, I think you’re doing so well).
Good luck with NaNoWriMo! I try every year, and fail. 🙁 I love your pumpkin art too! 😀
