What free resources do you want?

6 years

As a blogger and designer, I like to give a helping hand to others when I can. I thought it would be fun to create digital freebies which may be useful. The question is, what free resources do you want?

If you’re a blogger who seeks out free resources to use, what do you look for most? Do you search for illustrations? Hunt for patterns and textures? Browse for photography? Or look to find something else?

I would like to create a range of free resources for personal use. This might include; illustrations, photography, textures, patterns and more. What I want to make sure of, is that I am creating things that you desire. It could be easy to create designs that I like or may use, but that doesn’t mean that you would!

If you have a moment to leave a comment. Let me know the freebies you look for, or if you have any suggestions that would be fantastic.Β  πŸ’–

  1. I usually look for tips when it comes to resources XD. Though, I suppose the next best thing for me are textures. I’m at the point where I would pay for some cool textures D:. I love a feminine/minimal style where it looks great but not too “noisy”. Though, I’m probably not the right person to ask about this XD (I’m trying to answer anyways). PSD is for the win!

But if you ask about how much I’d pay for textures, $15 and under is the magic number… I feel bad because I’m a cheapo but I feel like you can have more quantity sales that way. At the same time, higher prices mean more exclusiveness.

    1. Thank you! I don’t think you are a cheapo at all. Paying anything more for textures would be a lot of money, especially to something that would only be a minor addition to a design.

  2. It’s so nice of you to offer free resources! And from what I’ve seen, I’m sure they’ll be high quality ones. I remember the time when all blogs had visitor content, those were the days.
I usually look for patterns and textures if I’m looking for resources to create a graphic. I also love to look for layout inspirations as most of mine are a mix of my favorite ones around the web. Icons/avatars are cool too.
I don’t think I really look for a style when it comes to resources. I like minimalist, though. It’s why I love Subtle Patterns. I prefer to have them in a .png or .psd file πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you. ou3uo I can remember those days as well! So many people had all kinds of things for free. I think my favourites were the pixel art or even the ‘toy boxes’.

  3. What free resources do you look for (Such as; photography, illustration sets, icons, avatars/display pictures, banners/headers, textures, patterns, filters, photoshop actions, pixel art, logos or templates)?: Hmmm I usually like banner/headers, logos, or pixel art. Oh and templates!
Do you like a particular style (such as; feminine, professional, modern/simple, cute, dark or something else?:I like simple and cute!
Do you prefer a particular format for files (Such as; .jpg, .png, .gif, .svg, .ai, .psd)?: I usually like jpg or png!

  4. I tend to look for photography the most! I don’t usually make graphics for posts anymore (outside of headers), so photography is what I find myself searching for the most. But I lost love illustration sets and icons!

I’m a fan of feminine and modern/simple styles, especially if they can go with pretty much anything. πŸ˜› The more versatile the better! I don’t really prefer any certain kinds of formats.

I’m glad you want to offer resources to other bloggers! I love your resources and they’re so helpful πŸ™‚ Plus you know how what to offer people since you’re also a blogger!

  5. Awww you’re so sweet! I think I would like to see some emojis! I bet you’d be good at making those! Patterns is another one you’d be great at. My style shifts between feminine and cute, though sometimes I like the intricate/artistic style – just not something I can pull off. I prefer png format for graphics because it’s lossless, though some people have provided ai files to be the MVPs, though I don’t expect that from anybody. πŸ˜›

  6. That’s so cool you want to provide to the design community by offering free resources! These days I usually only use WordPress themes but I know when I was more active in actually creating things, I actively searched for patterns/textures.

I prefer modern/simple and .png/.jpg file types. The .ai and .psd files work as well but I remember back when I couldn’t afford to get Illustrator or Photoshop and feeling frustrating at not being able to download certain resources because they were .ai or .psd n’D

  7. I don’t look for a lot when it comes to designing stuff, but I do look for photography. Usually just stock photography that I can use for a banner on my blog posts (I prefer high resolution so I can easily work with it). Sometimes I will want to put text on it, other times I don’t. If I want to put text I do like something with a bit of whitespace and not too many colours in it. Something relatively β€œsimple”.

I love downloading fonts (but I know they are hard to make). There are many free ones out there, and I don’t use them on a daily basis but they come in handy when I want to design things even just for fun.

I don’t really have a preferred style but I like elegant and bold styles, without them being too decorative (in terms of elegance) or out-there (in terms of boldness).

I don’t really have any preferred formats but I am usually happy with JPG and PNG, or PSD for anything that isn’t just an image.

    1. Thank you! πŸ˜€ I love to download fonts when I can. There is so much work involved in creating them, that I am always in awe of the designs that others make. OuO

  8. Yes, it’s annoying and I hope it gets resolved soon.

I would love to see some textures and patterns. These are essential for creating blog themes but it is difficult to find really nice ones. It’s great that you are providing free resources. I always wanted to provide free resources but never got the time to work on them. πŸ™

  9. I tend to look for textures and patterns! Icons are also handy since I get lazy about making them (like social media icons and such). The style varies for me depending on which site I’m using it for. When it comes to textures and patterns, I have no preference in file format, but for icons, I always prefer vectors, like EPS for Photoshop. I think that’s great that you want to offer free resources!

  10. I think it’s awesome that you’re providing free resources for your work!

What free resources do you look for (Such as; photography, illustration sets, icons, avatars/display pictures, banners/headers, textures, patterns, filters, photoshop actions, pixel art, logos or templates)?
I don’t particular look for many resources apart from photography. Especially since I don’t use photoshop much apart from photo editing my photos. But I’d like to see more things like avatars and icons – I like switching up my Twitter photo when I can πŸ˜‰
Do you like a particular style (such as; feminine, professional, modern/simple, cute, dark or something else? I love feminie and modern styles!!
Do you prefer a particular format for files (Such as; .jpg, .png, .gif, .svg, .ai, .psd)? No preference really!

  11. It’s great that you offer freebies! That’s so lovely of you.

I don’t really look for resources at the moment, but I think photography would be really helpful to a lot of people. I’d also love to see some sort of banners for blog posts (where you put the blog post title in) as I’ve tried to make them and I’m so terrible at it! I’m sure those would be helpful to loads of people. And I’d probably say Photoshop stuff is useful too. I really need to improve my skills!

  12. About the only thing I really need are Photoshop photo editing tips and photographs in case I don’t have a good photo for my header image XD I don’t really need a lot! But this is nice of you for wanting to do this <3

  13. That’s so great you’re doing this, Kya! For me, I usually look for brushes as free resources. But it’s been a while since I’ve sat down & really looked at free stuff for Photoshop. Right now, I love getting free & unique fonts, haha!

  14. Wow, it’s so cool that you’re providing resources for other bloggers! πŸ™‚

I don’t look for a lot of resources since I don’t create much graphics anymore, but I do search for good photos from time to time if I don’t have good photos for header images πŸ˜€

  15. If I am looking for free resources I tend to look for photography, pixel art, logos, and probably avatars/display pictures. When it comes to style, it depends on what I am working on – for my website, I prefer feminine, modern/simple, and professional…clean yet girly designs. As for the format, I think that it would depend on the resource – although right now since I am using a Chromebook and cannot really do much design work, I’d have to say that any file type just associated with PhotoShop or any related program would be out. Finally, it so sweet of you to ask us what we want you to create – it shows that you truly care about your visitors and it makes us even more grateful that we get to read about your life and view your art.

  16. This is so thoughtful of you!

I’ve been thinking of something similar, but not full-blown. ~u~ OuO

I most frequently look for free resources (or try to) for my TCG-related activities.

–> will BRB to complete this comment 😐 g2g off PC. :/

    1. Back. ;D

I usually look for resources when I’m doing my TCGs. For my sci-fi TV show one, for example, I look for edgy textures; I look for cutesy stuff for the food one — I want to set it up like a hip/futuristic restaurant of some kind, but I’ve settled for possibly never finding the right stuff to make that happen. πŸ˜…

I would lean toward textures and/or patterns. I prefer jpg, PNG, gif. I have PSP9 and can open PSD files, but they don’t work the same in my program so I have difficulties with them sometimes.

  17. I mostly search for themes, stock photos and free background music for my vlogs hehe
so generous of you to share free resources πŸ™‚

  18. I actually thought about opening a free resources section myself in my learning/creative journal blog, but the amount of time that I got (between work, online classes, taking care of ailing dad, etc.), at the moment I don’t have any time creating freebies, whether they’re fonts or mini-illustrations, etc. If any, I go around Creative Market and other similar sites for cool/interesting freebies.

But, this is really kind of you, Kya. If you do decide to open one, an .ai version would be wonderful. πŸ™‚

  19. It’s been a while since you posted this, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to add my voice to the mix anyways since I’ve sort of been MIA lately.

I don’t tend to hunt for resources as much anymore, but when I blogged previously without my own artwork I would often look for photography to include in my posts. I think I wouldn’t have minded illustrations to add, but I don’t think I ever came across that were for use in other’s blogs (or if they were, I didn’t get the memo and was afraid of misusing someone’s work). Filters and Photoshop actions are other things I have occasionally searched once I started doing my own work, but not so much anymore.

Personally, I tend to like darker images, but I don’t think that’d be as popular as cute, minimalist images when it comes to blogs. Most seem to focus on lifestyle topics with white backgrounds so those would probably get the most hits, I would think!

And formats? I do think psd are super lovely if you allow your images to be edited for use on blogs as that would give greater freedom, but jpgs work well too!

Whatever you decide to do, I think it’s awesome you’re taking your readers thoughts into consideration. It’s always nice when the blogosphere helps each other out πŸ™‚

  20. All your stuff is so creative, and inspiring! I love seeing it all, even if I don’t use it myself.

    1. Occasionally I’ll look for templates, or color palette suggestions.
    2. I like simple and cute.
    3. PNG is my thing! πŸ˜‰

  21. I always look for vectors and illustrations. And it’s nice if it is simple and modern, in .png format (it makes is easier to edit in Photoshop πŸ˜€ )

  22. Hey Kya, I finally got internet back, and am working on upping the blog again, haha.

When looking around blogs, aside from the posts and interacting, I generally like reading through different lifestyle tricks like health advice, simple exercises, and home decorating.
I also like looking through wordpress themes, and if any just jump at me I’d like to use one. As far as themes go, I like simple and feminine style themes. A bit of colour, simplistic looks, but still attractive to the eye.
Photography is always awesome to look at, because I can always appreciate a work of art!
