First class complete

7 years

I have completed my first class or unit for University and although I don’t have my total grade yet, I am pretty sure I passed. 😍

My first class was about 20th Century Design and I enjoyed learning about the events, movements and styles that shaped design, during the 20th century. For instance the industrial revolution that kickstarted mass production, the need for a commercial designer and the creation of the consumer market. I found particularly interesting how design was used to create cultural myth and identity (Australia from the pastoral colonial landscape to entice immigration to the modern world we live in today).

The only issue that I had with the class, was there was a lot of information to try and absorb in just 12 weeks. I am pretty confident that I have passed the class. The first two assignments I submitted I got High Distinctions ☺️ and if I get at least pass or credit for the others, all is well.  😬

I spent some time today trying to create some ‘traditional art’. I have this terrible expectation of myself, that I should be able to create super-amazing works of art without having to learn the process… It is a completely ridiculous thing, because I should know from past experience (digital art) that you have to take time to learn how-to. If anyone has any recommendations for really good online tutorials for watercolour/acrylics painting, let me know.  🎨

This was my dabble trying to create succulents. The large blue square is acrylic and the rest on the white is watercolour. The watercolour pencils I have are not that wonderful, and I need to get a good watercolour paper/pad. I wasn’t really happy with how it turned out, but practice practice practice!  😐

Or….

Just create a similar thing with digital art and add some cute faces…..

Since I am posting on February 14, Happy Valentine’s Day. I hope you know you are loved. 💖

  1. You’ll get better at traditional art 🙂 If you choose to do so! And there’s nothing wrong with what you did. Although, I do love the digital stuff, especially how the succulent leaves look.

I can’t quite remember what the last class I completed was. Either my nutrition course on Coursera or my cert IV in Frontline Management.. both quite some time ago 😛

Didn’t do a whole lot for valentines day, it’s not something I really get into. I bought Jarrod a cute little card that had chocolate in it that said on the front “I love you more than chocolate” and then inside “well almost” which I thought was funny and cute. I also made a cake for him (and me :D) and we went out and enjoyed some frozen custard but really we would do most of things on weekends anyway 😛

Oh, I also love your 2 peas in a pod 😀 very cute!

  2. LLAMA LOVE!

Congratulations on completing the class, I am sure you passed. #SUCHTALENT Your artwork is very cute and ‘very Kya’. I actually love drawing and doodling little plants myself. They are the first thing that comes to mind when I’m doing scribbles or working with colour. Actually, I usually draw a cube with a plant coming out of its head. Like those old smilies I used to make on my blog. ?

What was the last class or study you completed?
I finished my Master of Interactive Multimedia a couple of years ago 🙂

Do you like creating traditional art?
I like it, but I am not very good at it and I find that inspiration runs away quickly. I spent about $40 on supplies to make my own cards for birthdays, celebrations, and (possibly) Christmas this year, to get my creative juices flowing. I have made two birthday cards so far but I will have to wait for more occasions to turn up to actually use the supplies. It is not something I am amazing at, but I do like to do it.

    Have any Valentine’s Day plans?
No 🙂 🙂 Was just at home today!

  3. Love your traditional and digital art! I like both, but I think I’m more fond of digital artwork 🙂

Yay for completing your class! I hope you get good marks! Some days I miss taking classes, but most days I don’t miss all the stress and the work that I’d put into them LOL

Happy Valentine’s Day to you, Kya!

  4. I remember taking Introduction to Art at a community college. It was so boring that I was falling asleep. The lectures were boring. The instructor would show slides of different types of art. I couldn’t wait until was finish. I had to do a soap project where we had to crave something out of a soap bar. For example, I carved a t.v. out of a soap. Art isn’t really my thing. I knew that when I took a drawing class and I couldn’t draw as good as everyone else. I took Digital Art where we had to do three projects on Photoshop, Flash, and Illustrator. The Photoshop came out pretty good. The Flash and the Illustrator project didn’t come out so good. Oh well. You did a good job. I like it.

    1. What was the last class or study you completed? FSHN 185
    2. Do you like creating traditional art? It’s okay
    3. Have any Valentine’s Day plans? No

  5. Hi Kya!

Omg, the art you made is so cute, I love it. Congrats on finishing your first class. College is so hard, I have so many labs that I have to do. The labs themselves are okay but my gosh, the reports you have to write afterward is so painful, 5-6 pages per report and I have complete 2 pretty much every week. T__T

I don’t know if coloring counts as traditional art but I have one of those adult coloring books by Johanna Basford, the Lost Ocean one. I’m working on it and its very relaxing, I surprised by how much I like it. lol :’D

  6. Congratulations on finishing your first class! And even more when you pass the class ;). It’s awesome that you’re getting your hands on art and you’re really good at it! I’ve been meaning to learn how to properly watercolor as well and used watercoloring pens… Send over the tutorials if you find it useful too 😉

Your digital art skills are way beyond talented!

I like traditional art, but I’m not all that great at it. I finished one of my sets of classes last quarter, and have one more to go 🙂

  7. I am the same way sometimes! I expect what I make to be perfect, and when its not give up. XD

I need to learn watercoloring myself. I have a set of em I bought and I wanna use em!

  8. Congrats on completing your first class! That sounds like an interesting subject 🙂

I’ve been tempted to do more traditional art lately too. I’ve been watching all these videos of artists recording themselves doing watercolor works, and now I want to get back into that. Ever since switching to oil paints, I haven’t done watercolor in many, many years! I have watercolor pencils, but I think I want to buy the paints again. Both the traditional and digital succulents you did are cute! I also love the peas in a pod one!

I actually can’t remember the last class I completed. I’m pretty sure I was just taking Computer Science classes at the end. I do like traditional art though! I just wish I did it more often. And for Valentine’s Day, we just stayed at home and cooked together 🙂

  9. Wow, you’re good in both traditional and digital art! I wish I have the same talent, I can’t even create good color combinations. Haha

The last class I took was about jQuery. It was great learning new things but I should put it in practice more so I would not forget it haha

  10. Yay, congratulations on feeling like you’ve passed and like you’ve done well. That’s always an awesome feeling and it sounds like a really interesting course.

The digital art cacti are so CUTE! Great job 🙂

  11. Congratulations on finishing your first class! I think your traditional art looks very cute. 😀 You did great, and you’ll only get better the more you do it.

My last semester in college was a slew of Biology classes. I can’t recall anymore. I like to doodle and dabble in calligraphy when I’m killing time, but I haven’t put much effort in getting really good. Does crochet count? XD

  12. Congrats on finishing your first class! I actually earned my Udemy Certificate of Completion for Jekyll not too long ago, so I’m happy. I’m currently trying to get into Hugo now. I heard it’s faster than Jekyll but I’ll be the judge of that. I should be finishing up the more practical ones like Javascript and PHP but… well… ^^

I used to do a lot of traditional art before, but when college came, it went immediately to digital art with Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Painter, etc. Before that, I dabbled a lot with calligraphy, some manga-style doodling, silkscreen printing, and lately, zentangles/zen doodling. I want to get in to printmaking again, in particular, Gelli Printing.

Originally, I didn’t have any plans for Valentine’s Day before, but then my brother and his fiancee treated me out to dinner and a movie that day. I don’t particularly like Valentine’s Day, but those two, even though that day was supposed to be for the two of them, but both decided to bring me along. I felt like a third wheel but we all had fun LOL.

  13. Oohh Design class. 🙂 I took up a Design in college.
Congratulations on completing your first class!

Traditional art is fun to do sometimes but I agree with you, I’m more of a Digital art person too. And I usually hate going through the process of something. My short-attention-spanned brain would rather just get to the result already! haha

As you know though, I do watercolor as a hobby as I find it quite relaxing. I learned by applying some knowledge from school and uni, and also by reading a lot and watching demo videos. Watercolor is all about flow.

I know I’ve yet to finish Part 3 of my watercolor series (aka the Paper part), but if you’re looking for a good watercolor pad, I personally love Canson. I own the most basic pad and it works well for me! Another popular brand is Berkeley- which my friend uses. But I prefer Canson over it as Berkeley has a rougher paper texture compared to the rough side of the basic Canson.

  14. I’m in the process of going to classes, but congrats! My husband took design in college and loved, too bad he never finished college. No v-day plans as my husband worked but I got a lot done by cleaning and catching up on homework.

  15. Congrats on completing your first class! I love your art work! I’m sure you’ll have done really well.

I miss art – I did it for my A-Levels, but haven’t really had much time for it since. There are so many things I want to do but not enough hours in the day!

I can’t paint very well, but I’m pretty good with shading in coloured pencil. Can’t draw very well though. I’m sure your skills will improve over time – you clearly have a gift for design, it’s just practicing the new techniques!

I love your digital works. They’re all so cute!
    xxx

  16. Traditional art seems to be organically spreading again! I love seeing so many of my friends picking it up again. I had the opportunity to try it as well, and I’m glad.

I went to a trade school, for medical billing. I don’t work in the field anymore, but it was great to educate myself, and improve my confidence.

    Love your work! 😀
