8 Photos of Happiness

8 years

I was tagged by Georgie to post 8 photos of happiness.

The 8 photos I have selected are from many different times in my life and all carry a different memory. They do share one very important common theme: happiness.

1. Meeting Nicole – 8th July 2007

My dear friend Nicole came to visit me for around a month in 2007. It was so wonderful to be able to spend time with someone I had known online for years. It was the first time that Nicole had been to Australia, so my family wanted to make sure that she could see a lot of different things. My Dad even got excited and invented the ‘slang’ term ‘sling’. I was so happy to be able to see her, as well as enjoy reading the last Harry Potter book and attending a dress up party. (Thankfully Nicole selected our house badges and we got Slytherin!) There was even some blog posts during that time. x, x, x.

2. Walking with my grandfather – 8th May 2008

I love this photo because it was a time when both my grandparents were still alive and I felt close to my family. When I was little I used to always go for walks with my grandfather, and it was so nice being able to capture this moment. I still miss him so much.

3. Kitdung – 29th December 2009

When I got Kitdung he was like a ray of sunshine that brought a lot of happiness and joy. My grandparents had been ill and my father survived cancer, but I was able to appreciate my family and be so glad I had them.

4. INXS – 25 January 2011

The quality of the image is not very good, but the moment was really great. I was able to see one of my favourite bands live, INXS (for the second time) and also loved that Train also played at the same festival. I really enjoyed the show and wish I would be brave enough to go to more!

5. Snow – 21 June 2011

This was such an exciting day. We had not had a good fall of snow in many years. Mum and I decided to go out and take a lot of photos. We had such a great time.

6. Sydney – 24 July 2011

My trip to Sydney in July 2011 was awesome. It was the first time I had been by myself on a proper holiday and I got to meet two great friends Claire and Krissy for the first time. I saved up a lot of money and stayed in a fancy hotel and had fun doing a lot of things. It was a great trip with so many fond memories.

7. Cricket – 31 December 2012

Tiger & Kinky

It has been a tradition for dad and I to play cricket on the last day of the year. We have been doing this since I was 7 or 8 (around 20 years). Every year our animals usually join us and this was one of those times. Kinky and Tiger took a little wonder. Tiger (cat) was moving in for a cuddle. It’s also special because Kinky and Tiger were my grandparents pets and we continued to care for them.

8. Photography – 16th July 2015

This might seem like an odd photo to feature for happiness. But it’s one of my favourites and to me it represents my love of photography and how much I enjoy taking photos of objects, nature, animals (all the things). You never know what your next shot is going to be or how other people will connect and recieve it. Personally, the whole process of placement, lighting, editing, uploading is just something I really like. It brings me happiness.

  1. Loved seeing your photos, Kya! I love how you have a great mixture of photos with people! I just realised that none of my photos had people in them haha! And that KITTEN. HOMG. SUCH A CUTIE!

I think the first time I used a digital camera was in high school, and it was my dad. Then when I was in college, my dad got a Canon PowerShot SD450, and I kind of ended up taking it from him, haha! Unfortunately, I don’t think I have every photos I took, but I do try to keep the ones I take now XD

    1. Thank you! When I started this I didn’t think I would use pictures of people, but as I was browsing through the photos some of them I just had too, because they brought back a lot of memories and seemed like the right fit. πŸ˜€

Oh, the stealing cameras off dads if a time old tradition. xD

  2. These photos are awesome! ^^ I love Train and INXS. Glad you had fun! Also, I remember the first time I seen snow, it was magical! Until, I had to walk in it, but I still had fun in it.

    1. Thank you. πŸ˜€ When you see snow for the first time it is really exciting. I have never seen a huge amount of snow in person, but one day I hope I can. Trying to walk in a lot of it would be a big challenge!

  3. Great photos Kya! I love how the snow one looks and the photo of Kitdung is so cute!

I don’t have most of the photos I take.. a lot of my history is really only stored on instagram. I am interested in trying this out I just don’t think I have enough history in photos πŸ˜›

    1. Thank you. πŸ˜€ That is the handy thing about a lot of social sites like Instagram and Flickr. You can save your photos and they are (hopefully) there forever. ;D

  4. I love all your photos. Kitdung is so cute!

I’m sorry about your grandparents, but I’m glad that your dad survived cancer. Here’s to more healthy years!

  5. Your cat is infinitely more photogenic than any person I’ve ever met. I kind of want to cuddle him to bits. <3

Also I really like the photo of your grandfather, there's something so intimate about it that it feels warm and inviting, even if simplistic.

Maybe I should do this at some point. :3

    1. Kitdung totally knows he has the looks and uses them to constantly get out of trouble. :p

That would be great if you did a post like this. πŸ˜€

  6. Wow I am loving this tag going around, all these photos are so filled with smileys! I love how you went back to so many years ago and posted photos, it’s so meaningful that you remember those moments despite time moving so fast. That’s the saddest thing in life, time. We post photos of happiness to counter it. πŸ™‚

The photo of your grandfather is so sweet, and the kitten so cute. Such beautiful shots. And SNOW in Australia! Please send that one to my friend who lives in Newcastle. XD

  7. Great photos, Kya! I LOVE INXS. I wish I could have seen them in concert, but I’m not even sure if they’re still together at this point. I was a fan of JD Fortune, but I think Michael Hutchence can’t be replaced.

Also, I’m glad your dad overcame cancer; may he continue to have good health. And Kitdung is adorbz, by the way!

    1. Michael Hutchence was such a giant personality and nothing can replace the classic INXS. I did like JD with the band, it added a new dimension to it and I liked his voice a lot. He is no longer with them and the band is not really ‘active’ at the moment. The two times that I did see INXS, JD was with the band, so I enjoyed it.

I am so lucky to have my dad. He survived cancer twice and I know not everyone is able to live to tell that story.

  8. Love the photos. I’m sad that I can’t participate in this. I don’t even have eight photos to share, heh.

I’m jealous of the snow. I haven’t seen snow in about 19 years.

    1. Maybe you will be able to do it a bit later if you have more photos or even do a post with current photos that share happiness in your life. πŸ˜€

Wow, that is an amazingly long time to have not seen snow.

  9. These are beautiful, Kya! I love snow – we usually get at least one good snowfall a year, but I feel like they are so few and far between! I love to play in it and take pictures, it’s just beautiful!

Aw, your cat is so cute!!

  10. That cat photo, so cute! The photo of Tiger and Kinky is also super adorable, I’m a sucker for animal photos πŸ˜› I may have to do this now. We should start having some snow fall here, I’m excited but also not haha.

  11. I liked looking at the photos you chose! That’s awesome that you’ve been able to meet online friends in person, and I think the second photo is a great memory. I’m glad you have a photo of that time πŸ™‚

The photo of Kitdung is so cute, and I also love the one of Tiger and Kinky together. Lovely snow photo too! I haven’t seen snow in a long time, since it doesn’t really snow where I live.

I actually can’t remember how old I was when I first had a digital camera. I think it was when I was a teenager… which was um… a long time ago, haha. I think I have most of my old photos on my computer still! I was tagged for this one too, so I need to get my entry up soon πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you. πŸ˜€

That’s great that you still have most of your photos. Thankfully I have all of mine. Which is kind of a miracle considering different computers and saving things to disks took ages. xD

  12. Some lovely photos here – your cat is so cute!

It’s so cool that you got to meet someone you’ve known online, I bet that was fun.

I do still have most of the photos I’ve taken. Think I started taking my own when I was 13 and got a camera phone. Awful quality though!

I’ve not done this tag yet, but it would probably take ages to decide on photos.

    1. Thank you!

It’s amazing how the quality in the photos from phones keeps improving now. Who knows what the future will hold for digital photography!

  13. Aaaa thanks for doing this Kya! Still wish we would have bumped into each other in 2011 (wow that … was very long ago). One day in the future yes!

I think the crown rings really suit you. πŸ™‚ I’m not surprised that you chose that photo because I feel like it does represent you and your interests. Even just the way the rings are arranged shows that you’re a creative person. πŸ˜€

I don’t have a lot of photos of my grandparents because they passed before I was born or before the digital age. We have some old printed photos but they all have me in them when I was a lot younger. I suppose I didn’t spend a lot of time with my grandparents because they lived in Indonesia. Because I was so young I guess it didn’t bother me much, but perhaps it was much harder for my parents.

I remember the INXS photo from your blog post!!!! πŸ™‚

    1. When I was writing this post I was thinking about how I missed a chance to meet you than. I feel silly about it that I was too scared. We will in the future, that’s for sure! πŸ˜€

  14. I have to agree that though it might seem a bungh of different photos being put together as your 8 photos of happiness, after reading your caption for each photos, I understood why are they there. They all brings smile as I read and that counts as happiness, especially to you. Tiger and Kinky is my fave picture!

    To answer the question:
    1. When did you first start using a digital camera (or phone that takes photos)?
My first camera phone was in 2003, the Nokia 3200. For DSLR, I just started this year, although my siblings own DLSR for 4 or 5 years already. I’m not confident with my photography skill, and I hardly take photos, whatmore good photos XD

    2. Do you still have all the photos that you have ever taken?
Not really. I can’t find much photos that I really like tho~

    3. If you have done this, share a link to your post.
I would love to do this tag – once i manage to find 8 photos haha~

  15. I haven’t done this, but I totally want to now! XD I don’t think I have all the photos I’ve ever taken, but I have a lot of them. I got my first digital camera in 2009. πŸ˜€ No. 5 is my favorite btw!
