30 before 30

9 years

Inspired by a post that Jem made on her blog, I decided that I would make a list of 30 things to do before I turn 30, which will be on the 11th of March 2017. My hope is that it will inspire me to do many of the things I want and have a realistic ‘deadline’ for them.

  1. Solid mental health plan
Making sure I have a good mental health plan is important. If you struggle with mental illness you will understand how complicated it can be. Mental health plan can include, ‘feeling well’ having the right medication, good people to speak with if there is a problem, direction on how to get help and where to go if I need help.
  2. Plan a future
See a future for myself and decide what I am going to do there. Maybe study, work on my business, work for someone else? Decide and move forward.
  3. Work or Study
Once I have decided on my future plans, I should be working or studying towards some goals. I might update this once I know what I am doing, yay.
  4. Save don’t spend
I need to take money a little more seriously and really save it. Rather than just spending on random things I don’t need.
  5. Write/Illustrate a children’s book
I have wanted to do this for at least 15 years and haven’t yet. I need to write, illustrate and publish my own book for the kiddies.
  6. Pink Hair
I must have pink hair again at least once before I turn 30. If I could have it consistently pink that would be awesome (but I don’t think the hair could handle the constant bleaching…. šŸ™ )
  7. Write a lost letter
Write a letter to each person that I have lost and tell them everything I wanted to say since they have passed. This would be a really good healing experience, but I have been scared to do it.
  8. See Nicole & Claire
If I do not see Nicole and Claire in person again before I am 30, I fail at life, forever.
  9. Curb domain addiction
Only buy domains that I have an actual use for, and let go of ones I have never used…. YES.
  10. Stay vegetarian(ish)
I have never really liked eating meat, and made the decision to stop eating it (besides fish). I hope that I will continue to do this, because personally it feels right.
  11. 10 photo shoots
Take 10 photography shoots that each have 10 high quality images. These must all be planned, have a purpose and creative incentive. They can not be 10 random images of things I have brought.
  12. Write more often
I used to write poetry and fiction a lot. I should do this as much as I can, say at the very very least once a week!
  13. Appreciate
If I do not stop and appreciate what I have and who I have in my life then I am ignoring some really important parts of the whole big picture. Even though I may have some struggles, I still have to realise that I am lucky in many many ways and should see that and appreciate.
  14. Travel Overseas
It can include via plane or boat, but must be another country. (Note to self, Tasmania is not another country, so when I go there, it doesn’t count)
  15. Travel to Tasmania
Because it looks so amazing. But, it does not count as another country.
  16. Create art
I have softly stepped into traditional art and I should expand on this and be fearless in my approach to creative expression though artistic mediums.
  17. Learn current web standards
I am pretty much out of the loop with current web standards, so I need to relearn responsive design and everything to try and make some new designs.
  18. Make my own blog layout
Once I have caught up on current web standards, I should then make my own layout/theme for my blog!
  19. Stop smoking
    Because this would be healthy.
  20. Volunteer
I should volunteer my time for a charity that really needs it, and help them in any way they need. Preferably not just a one time thing!!
  21. 30 day creative challenge
Create something significantly creative everyday for 30 days. For instance, a small little five minute vector does not count, it has to have had more effort put in or a forfeit.
  22. Create Stationery
I have always wanted to make my own memo pads, journals, pens, stickers, cards and more and I should!
  23. Stop drinking soda/pop
I know how bad this stuff is for me, yet I seem to have a big problem with letting it go. If I can, I know I will feel a lot better too.
  24. Fix blog categories
Waaaah. Why did I have to put this here…
  25. Keep a journal/diary
I am really good at starting diaries, but then failing to keep them. I know how important they are to express all the feels and also a clear record of emotions and events that pass. DOOO IIIITTT.
  26. Read
I love to read and I should be continually doing this. Reading at least 20 books each year (hopefully more).
  27. Healthy Weight
Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight would be fantastic and very important.
  28. Blog Matter
Have Blog Matter running properly and able to connect bloggers to each other. It can happen.
  29. Drive more
I am not a confident driver, so I am not going expect myself to have a full license by 30, but to have at least been trying to drive more often and become more familiar with it.
  30. Accept 30 is not the end of the world
    Because it isn’t!

There, that’s not so hard. What am I waiting for? šŸ˜›

  1. I’m trying reeaally hard not to hoard domains! I just thought of another one which I could justify since it’s pretty personal, but I don’t need it. But I’m so tempted!

I love your list! I hope you get to do them all. šŸ˜€

    1. Thanks so much. Sometimes it’s hard to keep away from the domains. They are like a digital treat for those who are a little geeky at heart. xD

  2. Good lucky with these! I hope you’re able to get some or all accomplished.
I think 18 and 19 would be good for me, except not before 30 because well, it’s too late for that šŸ˜›

I also need to drive more so I can get an actual licence, not just my L’s.

    1. Thank you! <3

I hope you are able to do more driving too. It's one of those things that is good to be able to do, but a little bit scary at first. :/

  3. You have some time to get your 30 before 30 done! It’s definitely good to have a solid mental health plan- or health plan in general. You have to make sure your health is “up to par” before accomplishing other things. It sounds like you’re making progress in planning forthe future because you’re technically planning right now, right right? XD.

I always wanted to know what you look like; when you mentioned pink hair, I thought about the baby pink- inspired by your cutesy avatar XD. You are amazing for having a lot of domains with cute names!

Since you don’t like eating meat to being with, the pescatarian life doesn’t sound hard at all for you :D. And with your cool artistic skills, I’m sure you will do fine with creating your own stationery :).

!!! And bringing Blog Matter up is a must! It was going really well and I have confidence that it can continue :).

    Good luck!

  4. I’ve always loved the idea of having a 30 before 30 list. I’m actually considering making at 21 before 21 list which seems quite realistic in the time frame given.

Good luck with all of your goals. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Blog Matter back up and running. šŸ™‚

    1. That is a great idea to make that list for yourself. šŸ˜€

I hope I can get everything with Blog Matter up and working the way I planned. I really love the idea of the site and like helping bloggers. šŸ˜€

    1. Thank you! I agree with you and think it’s good to have goals, it gives you something to reach for, as long as the goals are realistic in a healthy way.

  5. This list is such a good idea! Heaps of these sound super achievable, you should keep this post up and update us every time you achieve something on it! I’d be super excited to see all the art stuff, too.

  6. That’s a pretty cool list! I love lists, heh. And this one seems like a really cool one. I especially understand the one about curbing domain addiction – I’m like that too! šŸ˜›

  7. Sounds like you have the start to a plan going! Congrats. I can’t believe I will be 3p in 2023… That is insane. It sounds so far away but it is only 9 years. I want to be married by then….and maybe pregnant. I don’t want to be too old when my kids graduate…lol

Anyway, good luck! Sounds like you have a plan. When you go to learn HTML 5 you can rejoin my forum šŸ™‚ I should have a few tutorials by then…I hope. Right now my free host is crappy but it is free so what can I say? I can’t complain….but whatever…

I can’t wait to see your children’s book! Good luck!!

  8. This sounds like a great idea! And since I’m turning 20 this year, I think it just gave me a great idea for a future blog post/list. Stay tuned for that!

But in terms of your list, it looks great! I wish you the best of luck. I didn’t know you were a vegetarian…major props because I know for a fact I wouldn’t last a day as a vegetarian. But that’s great!

And I really hope Blog Matters is up and running again soon. I saw that a few months ago and wanted to join but was really bummed to find out it wasn’t working anymore :/ Can’t wait to see it up!

  9. I’ve been thinking about things I want to do before I turn 30 and the major one is just to go to California and visit with someone who means a lot to me. Never know what could happen within that visit either. šŸ™‚

  10. Love your list! There are definitely some items on there that I need to do before 30, too, like the 10 photo shoots & writing more often.

  11. Oh man. I just had my 28th birthday. So did not need to stumble on your blog haha. I have so many goals, some ridiculous, some extremely important that I want to do before I’m 30… I might have to make a blog like this and keep going back to it as a checklist. But then it will start sounding like a bucket list… :O

Best of luck with all your goals, they all sound very reasonable. I need to unload some domains too.. >_>

  12. I love your list, and good luck with it! I think my days of being 30 years old is done. Haha! Maybe I should do a list of 40 before 40? šŸ˜› . Nah, just kidding. I think it’s marvelous that you have a list (sort of like a bucket list).

Some of the things you’ve listed like smoking and drinking soda pop are just bad habits. Even, I’m trying to break the habit of drinking soda pop. Sometimes, I just get those urges. Though, I value my teeth, more than drinking soda. I’ve had diabetes in the past before, and don’t want it again as I was able to reverse it. But if you put your mind to it, you can do it and break those habits. :).

  13. Sounds cheesy, but your goals are really inspiring! Some are common, like maintaining a healthy lifestyle or working on some bad habits, but then there are the ones that everyone has specific to them, yours including having pink hair again or illustrating a children’s book, all of which I find to be very enlightening, adventurous and spontaneous in a way as well! I really do wish you the best and hope you’re able to complete all of them before 2017. Long way to go, but you never know, time can go by pretty fast!

  14. I admire you for making this list. I think I would never make one because I know I will never follow it, but also, I might take things as they come.

But then again, this list is a maybe-something I might do.

    Your no.9…HAHA NEVER!!!!!!

  15. Yes yes yes! Love this post. Quality stuff. GO GET IT GURL!
    4. OH YES. I CAN RELATE TO THIS.
5-8: OMG YES YES YES. I WILL KICK YOUR LITTLE TUSH IF YOU DON’T.
11: Yes come visit me in Singapore.
    12&13: *nods head* mmm hmm…
14: YES COME TO SINGAPORE. I will house and feed you. šŸ˜€ Or japan! or taiwan!
    And everything else… GANBATTE! :3

  16. the first one is extremely important. i have to remind myself about that too. i was never fully diagnosed but i’m not so dumb to know that i’m not mentally stable myself. i still need to find ways to not get anxiety attack and go back to the depression zone though. tough job, that is.

i think you can do no.5. i think you’re a great illustrator and you have adorable visual style. i want to write and at least publish a book before i die too but who knows, i’m not very confident with my words despite people telling me to go for it.

pink hair, ah yes. i want that too at least once in my life but eh, who knows.. my hair grows like super slow and it has been damaged by constant bleaching once so… not sure when i’ll be ready for this again

i think you can do this before you reach 30, considering how you were born with the ability to do them; like do some art and illustrate a children’s book and make your own blog/web layout…which reminds me i still need to code a layout for my portfolio and i’m just so lazy and out of ideas on how i should make mine. sigh. insecurity is so annoying, man.

no.19 is really a must…i think. i’m in no way of forcing anyone who smoke but if a person stops, it’s really great of an achievement. smoking is such a hazardous trap and i get worried every time someone gets too addicted to it. also, reduce the sodas because sugar level! go for, uh..maybe tea? you remind me of how i need to reduce my addiction to caffeine too hah

  17. There’s a channel I follow on YT that I got to know thanks to a series named ’30 things before 30′. The girl filmed herself making things like driving a truck, knitting and etc. That inspired me so much!

I guess I’m just waiting for my birthday this year to start thinking about it more seriously. Love love your list and it sure inspired me even more to do it too! <3

  18. I believe in you! Good mental health is good – just as important as emotional and physical health, especially since all three affect each other. And ah, man, future goals… the hardest part’s making the decision, isn’t it? 😔

WRITE WRITE WRITE AND CREATE!! The only way to get things done is to get them done! /o/ And they can help with your health, too

I always look forward to seeing your new layouts, whether they’re premades or for your own blog ^_^

You can definitely do all of these before you turn thirty, I know you can šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

  19. Wow, this is a good plan! Feel like doing one myself~ I pretty much have half of the stuff that I want to do that you’ve written in your list. ;P Especially numbers 1 to 4 and 11 to 12. I hope you accomplish all of them! šŸ˜€
