2019 Update: Photography

2019 Update

4 years

Oh hey, it’s only been six months since my last post. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I thought it was the right time to share my 2019 update! In the past several months, I had a ๐ŸŽ‚birthday, had adventures in ๐Ÿš‚Canberra, got a ๐Ÿงœ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธtattoo, and finished a class on ๐Ÿ“ทDigital Photography. I have also been busy creating designs for Cute Magic and sharing free resources.

๐ŸŽ‚ Turning 32

I turned 32 on the 11 of March and spent the day with mum. We relaxed, watched a few movies and just enjoyed our time together. It’s nice to spend time with the people you love.

๐Ÿš‚ ๐Ÿ’– Canberra Trip

On the 13th of March, I headed off to Canberra to see my good friend Claire. It was a long train ride (about 10 hours), but it wasn’t too bad, with some good music to help zone out.

Claire showed me a number of the sights around Canberra, and I was impressed by how close everything was. You didn’t have to travel far to get where you needed to be.

Canberra

I particularly loved Rainforest Gully in the Botanic Gardens. It was such a relaxing and peaceful space. Lots of greenery and the soft mist was beautiful.

We also decided to get tattoos. We both love the mythical magic of mermaids and have a fascination with origami and geometric shapes. We spent many hours trying to find designs that we liked, but in the end, decided to come up with our own. We created some sketches and headed off to a tattoo parlour. We were a walk-in, and lucky to get it done that day.

I won’t lie. It was a bit painful, but not in a bad way. Because it was geometric design with only lines, it didn’t take very long. It’s not actually as blurry as it appears in the photo.

I am happy with the design and placement on my wrist. I think the hard part is once you have one you want all the tattoosโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ“ท Digital Photography

I completed a uni class focussed on Digital Photography. For the first time, I was forced to use my camera in manual mode, and understand the importance and power of exposure (shutter speed, aperture, depth of field and ISO).

I found that I developed an incredible appreciation of this art form. Combining the creative, technical and post-processing to create some shots I was proud of!

I finished the class with 90%, and if you’re interested, you can view my journey on my study blog.

Wow, we’re not far apart in age. I’m just a year older. Hope you had an awesome birthday! A belated happy birthday to you!

That trip sounds nice. Soon as you mentioned the rainforest all that came to mind was the movie Fern Gully. Many awesome new pictures too! You’ve been very busy!

  2. I’m pretty sure I said it on the day but just in case: a belated happy birthday to you! ๐Ÿฅณ

Canberra sounds nice, I like cities where you don’t have to waste time travelling back and forth between places.
And congratulations on your first tattoo! I like the idea you had with the geometric shapes, it’s a nice timeless look ๐Ÿ˜Š But do beware the tattoo bug! We’ll see how long it takes before you have full sleeves, haha!

Those photos are beautiful. I love the cats and how you’ve managed to capture the colours and patterns of their eyes. ๐Ÿ’š

  5. Sounds like you’ve done lots of exciting things! The pictures from the trip look amazing and the Botanic Gardens sound lovely! Also I like your new tattoo. I think that is a really cute and unique idea! I also love that its mermaid themed. I love mermaids. ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Yay it’s nice to see an update from you Kassy! <3

I loooove your photos! <3 I've always wanted to study photography but I did hear that besides technique, you also have to have an eye for good photos – in your opinion, is that something that can be learned?

Canberra sounds like a great place! I love places where everything is close to each other. I wish I could say the same about my city – and I wish we had great views like the ones at Rainforest Gully too!

  7. You’re not joking when you say that “once you get inked once, the desire never stops”. I’m currently at #7 and have so many plans for more. The wrist is a pretty painful spot, but I thought the ankle was a lot worse. Everyone handles pain differently though.

Seems that you’ve been busy. I love the Font and all of your other designs.

Your photos are absolutely beautiful as well!
